Stealing from the Bored and Giving to the Bingers: Robin Hood Snags Season 2 Renewal at MGM+

Three men in medieval attire, holding bows, are crouched in a dense, green forest, appearing alert and focused. Ferns and sunlight surround them.

Forget everything you think you know about men in tights and Kevin Costner’s questionable accents. MGM+ has officially decided that we haven’t had enough of Sherwood Forest’s favorite hoodlum, announcing that Robin Hood has been renewed for Season 2.

In a move that surprised absolutely no one who has been tracking the streamer’s recent hits, the reimagined historical drama is set to return with a bigger budget, higher stakes, and presumably more mud. Since its debut in late 2025, the show has become a cornerstone of the MGM+ lineup, proving that even a story told a thousand times can still draw a crowd if you add enough grit and a cast that looks like they’ve never seen a carb in their lives.

Why the Renewal Makes Total Sense

Let’s be real: MGM+ needed a win, and they found it in Jack Patten’s brooding portrayal of Rob. The first season managed to pivot away from the campy vibes of the 90s and instead gave us a gritty, high-stakes political thriller disguised as a folk tale. It wasn't just about archery; it was about the crumbling infrastructure of the Angevin Empire and the sheer exhaustion of being a peasant.

The numbers don’t lie. The series quickly climbed the ranks to become one of the platform’s most-watched originals. Fans (and the "TV Cave" crew) have been obsessed with the chemistry between Patten and Lauren McQueen’s Marian, who thankfully spends more time being a strategist than a damsel in distress.

What’s Coming in Season 2?

Production is reportedly heading back to PFI Studios in Serbia this summer. But don't expect the same old trees. Word from the showrunner, John Glenn, is that Season 2 is expanding the map. We’re moving out of the woods and into the corridors of power.

  • The Scope: The battle for the soul of the kingdom is moving to France and Rome.

  • The Cast: Sean Bean is still haunting the screen as the Sheriff of Nottingham, and Connie Nielsen’s Eleanor of Aquitaine remains the most terrifying person in any room she enters.

  • The Drama: Expect 10 brand-new episodes focused on the fallout of the Season 1 finale’s massive power shift.

The TV Cave Take

While some critics might moan that we don’t need another Robin Hood reboot, this version has earned its seat at the table. It’s dark, it’s expensive-looking, and it treats the audience like they have a functional brain. The decision to lean into the geopolitical mess of the 12th century rather than just "stealing from the rich" was a smart play.

If Season 1 was the origin story of a rebel, Season 2 looks like the chronicle of a revolution. If the writers can keep the pacing as tight as Robin’s bowstring, MGM+ might just have the prestige drama they’ve been hunting for.
