A woman with long dark hair in a plaid coat looks thoughtfully out a car window, resting her hand on her cheek inside the dim interior.

I did not expect an A.I. vigilante to have me so hooked in this week’s episode of The Rookie, but here we are. Zuzu is back, and it's not only helping John and Bailey get intel on who has Bailey on their radar, but it’s now reaching out to Angela to help Wesley out through his mess of a campaign. It seems helpful, but how much can the team trust Zuzu?

Bailey is Back - Let the Spy Games Begin

The trap set by Bailey in last week’s episode played out in this week’s new episode and we’re met with a team of four trying to take her out. They’re under the impression that she has information on the guy they’re working for, Heath Everett.

What I thoroughly enjoyed about this episode was the use of the entire team. More specifically, the way they coordinated Bailey’s arrival from D.C. to trap those who were following her. This could’ve easily been an episode focused on the task force, but each player had their role in this operation and it was executed flawlessly. Well, almost flawlessly.

Bailey makes another trap call, diverting this four-person crew to the hospital where they think will be their opportunity to get to Bailey. While there, Tim, Wade, Nyla, and Celina are on the inside following along with all their movements. There is a moment of distraction when Wade runs into Luna causing Tim to follow a member of the crew solo. Trapped in the elevator with one of the assailants, Tim’s cover is blown and a fight ensues. This man is then brought in, and when one of the other members, Raegan, sees this happening, she informs the other members to fall back.

The team tries to get a hold of this crew again, and Zuzu calls in with more intel. It informs John and Celina of a conversation the Brigadier General had after speaking with Raegan, informing someone to now remove her from the equation. While in pursuit, the rest of the crew is apprehended. Raegan being one of the last ones caught by John and Celina was a lucky break for her. John tells her that he knows about the plan and knows about the phone call she made to the BG and how shortly after, he ordered a hit out on her. With this information, Raegan has the opportunity to save herself and make a deal. Knowing that she is out of options, she surrenders.

This storyline has so many moving parts, and by the end we’re still missing the endgame. What is this crew trying to accomplish? And why is Zuzu trying to help John? For the first time in a long time, The Rookie is continuing a storyline throughout the season and I must say it’s keeping me engaged and connected.

Wesley’s in Trouble and Needs Help from the Least Expected

Nyla is on to something and I can’t help but agree with her suspicions: Zuzu has been dormant for quite some time and now all of a sudden it’s back and helping out not only the LAPD, but is now reaching out to Angela with information that could help Wesley out? Zuzu, who sent you?

It looks like Vivian is doing everything to make Wesley look bad in the press as he continues his run for District Attorney. There’s no proof, but I just know she was involved in Harrison Novak’s confession that caused the DA’s office to drop the charges against Liam Glasser. Now, while discussing strategy, he’s told he needs to go to the courthouse to sign paperwork that puts him in the vicinity of Elijah Stone, with news cameras all around. The timing is very suspicious to not be inside work, right? Elijah calls Wesley out, and even accuses him of cheating on Angela with Monica.

No one believes this could be true about Wesley (despite his past with Monica and the fact that he, you know, cheated on her), but his reputation is already being ripped to shreds online. The only thing to help clear his name is to have Monica speak out on his behalf. Oh boy. Turns out she doesn’t have a heart of stone after all; after speaking with Wesley, Monica records a statement and even mentions Vivian by name as to who could’ve been behind all of the smear campaigns against Wesley. Color me shocked on this one.

Wade and Luna

Am I the only one who thinks Luna is still playing the victim in this? When she runs into Wade at the hospital while he’s in the middle of an operation, the attitude she had on her while trying to get him to talk to her irritated me. Wade had every right to be upset and she had to deal with the consequences of her actions.

I know Wade loves her, so it’s no surprise that he was willing to still work things out with her, but Luna just accepted it – she took no blame in the matter and, I’m sorry, this is frustrating to see. She emotionally cheated on Wade, which is still cheating, and she can’t offer up an apology for how she made him feel? Let’s hope that we do see this in a future episode. She doesn’t deserve to be let off the hook for this.

Overall, this was a great episode. The only thing I didn’t care for was how involved Bailey is in police matters. I’m struggling to find a reason why she's always involved. Can someone remind me what her job is again?

What’d you think of the new episode? Is Zuzu really gone or do we think it’ll be back? Share your thoughts!
