Pluto TV Is Bringing Back Friday Movie Nights With Double Feature Fridays

Remember when Friday night meant picking up some snacks, settling onto the couch and actually committing to a movie instead of spending 45 minutes scrolling through every streaming service known to humanity? Pluto TV is apparently ready to bring that feeling back. The free streaming service is launching Double Feature Fridays, a new weekly movie experience created in partnership with Entertainment Tonight that pairs a beloved studio movie with a new indie film making its free streaming debut.

The new Friday night tradition kicks off August 21, 2026, giving movie lovers a reason to make Pluto TV part of their weekly plans. Each double feature will connect the two films through a shared actor, genre or theme, while Entertainment Tonight correspondent Emily Curl sets the stage with original segments featuring archival footage and behind-the-scenes stories from the show's extensive Hollywood vault.

Pluto TV Wants Friday Night Movie Night Back

There is something very different about being handed two movies to watch instead of being confronted with an endless wall of thumbnails and immediately forgetting why you opened the app in the first place. Double Feature Fridays is designed to recreate that old-school movie night feeling while giving viewers a combination of familiar favorites and films they may not have discovered otherwise.

The format will feature a recognizable studio classic followed by a newer independent title that is making its free streaming premiere. The pairings aren't random, either, as each week's movies will have a connection that could involve the cast, genre or overall theme. That gives viewers a little more incentive to stick around for the second movie instead of declaring, "I'm just going to watch one," and then accidentally falling asleep halfway through it.

Entertainment Tonight Is Bringing the Hollywood Stories

What makes Double Feature Fridays different from a standard movie block is the Entertainment Tonight component. Emily Curl will introduce each week's lineup with an original segment using material from ET's extensive archive, including interviews from film sets, behind-the-scenes footage and stories from some of Hollywood's biggest stars.

Those segments are designed to add another layer to the viewing experience by giving audiences some of the stories behind the movies before the films even begin. Viewers can expect everything from discussions about the physical demands of a role to memories from the sets and relationships between cast members that helped shape a production.

For a movie fan, getting that kind of behind-the-scenes context before pressing play is a pretty fun upgrade from simply reading a synopsis and hoping the movie is good.

The First Double Feature Is Out of This World

The inaugural Double Feature Fridays lineup is starting with Gravity and The Outer Threat, creating a pairing centered around humanity facing the enormous unknown beyond Earth.

Sandra Bullock's Oscar-nominated performance in Gravity will be introduced with archival Entertainment Tonight footage that looks back at the intense physical demands of making the film, along with footage featuring George Clooney's involvement in the production. Then viewers can stick around for The Outer Threat, which will make its free streaming

premiere as the second half of the double feature.

The Outer Threat stars Constance Wu as a retired astrophysicist whose peaceful family life takes an unexpected turn after her partner makes a discovery that changes everything. So, basically, Friday night starts in outer space and then brings the existential dread back home. We see what Pluto TV is doing here.

Here's What Else Is Coming

Pluto TV isn't stopping with one Friday night. Double Feature Fridays will continue every week through the end of 2026, with a lineup that pulls from major studios and distributors including Paramount, Warner Bros., Lionsgate and Radial Entertainment, alongside additional independent movies making their free streaming premieres.

The first wave of announced pairings gives viewers a pretty good idea of just how broad the format will be. After Gravity and The Outer Threat, audiences can look forward to Django Unchained + Outlaw Posse, John Wick: Chapter 4 + Reckless, Friday + A Hip Hop Story, Pitch Perfect + 40 Dates and 40 Nights (2026) and The Notebook + What's Love Got to Do with It (2022).

And yes, that is a very different Friday night depending on which week you tune in. One week you're getting Keanu Reeves kicking serious butt, another you're revisiting The Notebook and potentially making questionable emotional decisions, and somewhere in between you're getting Friday and a hip-hop-focused pairing. There should be something here for pretty much every kind of movie mood.

When Can You Watch Double Feature Fridays?

The new movie event premieres every Friday at 8 p.m. ET on Pluto TV Spotlight, with each week's double feature also becoming available through the Double Feature Fridays on-demand collection after its premiere.

The format will run weekly through the end of 2026, with Pluto TV promising additional pairings throughout the year. The lineup will eventually head into the holiday season with festive favorites including Scrooged and Bad Santa, giving the weekly movie tradition a seasonal makeover as the year winds down.

For Pluto TV, the idea is bigger than simply putting two movies next to each other on a schedule. The service is positioning Double Feature Fridays as a recurring destination for movie fans, combining recognizable titles, new discoveries and the kind of Hollywood stories Entertainment Tonight has been collecting for decades.

And we have to admit, there is something appealing about having somebody else do the movie-night planning for us. No scrolling, no debating what to watch and no one asking, "Have you seen anything good lately?" only to reject every suggestion. Just two movies, some behind-the-scenes Hollywood tea and a Friday night waiting to happen.
