Apple TV clearly knows a good thing when it sees it, because Platonic the comedy that has become the unofficial handbook for making questionable midlife decisions is officially returning for Season 3. The Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne–led series has been on a hot streak, with Season 2 pulling a pristine 100% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and critics calling the duo’s chemistry “the perfect match” and “wildly funny.” Translation: Apple didn’t just renew the show; it basically gift-wrapped another year of delightful dysfunction for all of us.
For the uninitiated (or the criminally behind), Platonic follows former best friends Will and Sylvia, whose attempt to reconnect in midlife spirals into the kind of comedic disaster that should honestly come with a warning label. Season 2 dialed things up with work meltdowns, relationship landmines, and a wedding subplot that will live in cringe-comedy infamy. Through it all, Rogen and Byrne remain a walking reminder that yes, friendship is magical but it can also blow up your life if you’re not careful.
Co-creators Nicholas Stoller and Francesca Delbanco are understandably thrilled to dive back into their universe of awkwardness and emotional shrapnel, while Apple TV head of programming Matt Cherniss praised the team for leveling up the series in Season 2. And he’s not wrong: The addition of guest stars like Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney, Beck Bennett, and Milo Manheim didn’t hurt either, rounding out a cast that already included Luke Macfarlane and Carla Gallo.
Behind the scenes, the show continues its partnership with Sony Pictures Television and Point Grey Pictures, with Byrne, Rogen, Stoller, Delbanco, Evan Goldberg, and James Weaver steering the ship or at least trying to keep it from crashing into a metaphorical pier.
With both stars thriving at Apple TV Rogen riding high on the Emmy-nominated The Studio and Byrne sharpening her comedic claws in Physical Platonic returning for another season feels like a no-brainer for the platform. And honestly? TV is better when these two are spiraling together.
Season 3 doesn’t have a release date yet, but if the first two seasons are anything to go by, expect more midlife messiness, emotional chaos, and the kind of platonic bond that somehow manages to be both heartwarming and wildly irresponsible.
Until then, both seasons are streaming now on Apple TV, ready for your next binge-watch session.
Because if we’re all collectively stumbling through adulthood, we might as well laugh about it preferably with Seth and Rose leading the way.
