Norman Reedus Is Trading Zombies for Espionage in Apple TV’s ‘Disavowed’

Norman Reedus is getting ready to put the crossbow down and enter the world of international espionage.

The longtime Walking Dead star has joined James Marsden in Apple TV’s upcoming action thriller Disavowed. Details about Reedus’ character are being kept under wraps for now, but considering the series involves CIA agents, assassins and a very large bounty, we’re guessing things aren’t exactly going to be peaceful.

And really, would we want peaceful Norman Reedus?

Disavowed centers on Brad Griffin, played by Marsden, a legendary CIA case officer who is suddenly fired while hunting an elusive assassin responsible for killing one of his colleagues. Once Griffin finds himself disgraced and pushed out of the intelligence world, he decides he isn't finished with the case just yet.

Instead, he goes after the $15 million federal bounty placed on the assassin himself. Because apparently getting fired from the CIA means it's time to freelance. The series comes from Iron Man and Uncharted writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, with Michelle MacLaren set to direct the first two episodes. MacLaren's credits include Breaking Bad and The Morning Show, which certainly doesn't hurt our interest here.

Reedus joining Disavowed also comes as one very long chapter of his television career approaches its end. He has played Daryl Dixon since the first season of The Walking Dead and continued the role in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. The spinoff will conclude with its upcoming fourth season after Reedus spent roughly 16 years playing everyone's favorite crossbow-wielding survivor.

That makes Disavowed particularly interesting. We've spent years watching Reedus survive walkers, villains and seemingly every terrible situation the apocalypse could throw at Daryl. Now we get to see what he does when somebody gives him spies and assassins instead.

Apple TV has not announced a premiere date for Disavowed.
