General Hospital fans expecting a new trip to Port Charles on Monday will have to wait one more day, but ABC has something special planned in its place.

On Monday, September 7, General Hospital will re-air its special tribute episode honoring the late Anthony Geary and his legendary character, Luke Spencer. The encore presentation originally aired on February 20, 2026, following Geary’s death in December 2025.

ABC executive Nathan Varni announced the Labor Day encore on social media, telling fans to save the date for another opportunity to watch the show’s farewell to one of the most important stars in General Hospital history.

Rather than simply stringing together memorable Luke Spencer clips, the special worked Geary’s legacy into the ongoing world of Port Charles. At the center of the episode was Lulu Spencer, played by Alexa Havins, finally confronting the grief surrounding her father’s death. Lulu was in a coma when Luke died, leaving her without the chance to process the loss alongside the rest of her family. Her journey through that grief allowed General Hospital to revisit Luke’s life through the people who knew and loved him.

Laura, played by Genie Francis, was naturally a major part of the tribute. Their Luke and Laura pairing became one of daytime television’s most famous supercouples and helped turn Geary into a soap icon. Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot), Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) and Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) were also among the characters who shared memories of Luke throughout the episode.

The special included flashbacks spanning Geary’s decades on the soap, giving longtime viewers another chance to revisit the character who first arrived in Port Charles in 1978.

Geary ultimately won a record eight Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor for his portrayal of Luke. He retired from General Hospital in 2015 before making one final brief appearance in 2017 as part of Jane Elliot’s then-exit storyline as Tracy.

Geary died on December 14, 2025, at the age of 78.

For viewers wondering what the Labor Day encore means for the current storylines, the wait will be short. General Hospital returns with a brand-new episode on Tuesday, September 8, picking up the action in Port Charles after Monday’s tribute.

Whether you watched the special when it originally aired in February or missed it the first time around, Monday offers another chance to remember the actor who helped define General Hospital for generations of viewers.
