Netflix’s A Different World Sequel Stacks Legends as Scooby-Doo Lands a Surprise Star

Group of seven smiling people, casually dressed in colorful sweaters, sitting closely in a cozy room. Warm, cheerful atmosphere.

If you thought Hollywood was running out of ways to rummage through your childhood toy box for spare change, think again. From Hillman College to the back of a Mystery Machine, the latest casting news is a chaotic mix of "Wait, they’re actually doing that?" and "Okay, take my money." Grab your remote and a snack, The TV Cave is breaking down the newest faces (and very familiar old ones) hitting your queue.

A Different World, The Same Legends

Netflix is officially heading back to Hillman, and they aren't doing it halfway. The upcoming sequel series, which follows Dwayne and Whitley’s youngest, Deborah (Maleah Joi Moon), just leveled up its guest star roster. Glynn Turman and Dawnn Lewis are officially back to reprise Col. Taylor and Jaleesa.

Let’s be real: a Hillman without the Colonel’s side-eye isn't a Hillman we want to live in. They join the already-announced recurring OGs Kadeem Hardison and Jasmine Guy. Throw in Tichina Arnold and Raven Goodwin as guest stars, and this show is basically a "Who’s Who" of Black Excellence. If the writing is half as sharp as Whitley’s tongue, we’re in for a treat.

Gritty Reboots and Badge Heavy Dramas

If you prefer your TV with more handcuffs and fewer laugh tracks, the procedural world is busy. MGM+’s Bosch prequel, Bosch: Start of Watch, just added a literal squad of character actors, including Castle’s Seamus Dever and Chuck’s Ryan McPartlin. It’s 1991 L.A., so expect a lot of pagers and brooding.

Meanwhile, Milo Ventimiglia is trading his This Is Us Crock-Pot trauma for a badge in the HBO Max pilot American Blue. He’s joined by Eddie Kaye Thomas (yes, Finch from American Pie) and Kelly Jenrette. It’s being directed by David Ayer, so expect it to be loud, sweaty, and very intense.

Scooby-Doo Gets an Emmy Winner

In the "headlines we didn't see coming" category, Netflix’s live-action Scooby-Doo series has nabbed Emmy winner Paul Walter Hauser. While his role is a mystery, hopefully not one involving a guy in a rubber mask, Hauser brings a level of prestige to a show about a Great Dane that solves crimes. Is he Shaggy? A villain? The dog? At this point, we’re just happy he’s there.

The Verdict

Between Phoebe Dynevor heading to Manchester for the mother-daughter cop drama Dirty and Meagan Good shaking up Reasonable Doubt Season 4, your "Must-Watch" list is officially bloated. Hollywood is leaning hard into a mix of comfort-food nostalgia and high-stakes grit, and honestly, we aren't mad about it.

Which of these reboots are you actually excited for, and which one needs to be cancelled before the pilot wraps? Drop a comment below or find us on X @TheTVCave to vent.
