Netflix Reunites David Harbour and Millie Bobby Brown for a New Spy Thriller Series

Two people pose at a Stranger Things Netflix event, smiling in black formalwear before a red-and-blue logo backdrop.

Netflix went ahead and dropped a casting bomb that has the internet collectively losing its mind. David Harbour and Millie Bobby Brown are officially reuniting for a brand-new Netflix spy thriller series. Six months after Stranger Things wrapped up its historic run, the ultimate on-screen foster duo is trading demogorgons for undercover espionage, and honestly, we are so ready for this next chapter.

The straight-to-series order pairs the two heavy-hitters with acclaimed indie powerhouse A24. If you were worried they would be playing completely different characters, breathe a sigh of relief. They are stepping right back into a father-daughter dynamic, only this time, things are a lot more complicated than arguing over Eggo waffles.

What is the New Millie Bobby Brown and David Harbour Series About?

The currently untitled project is loosely based on Paul Warner’s 2026 debut spy novel, A Spy in the Blood. Forget the telekinetic superpowers and police chief uniforms. According to the official Netflix logline, the story follows Matt Wolfe (Harbour), a disgraced former FBI agent who has spent years trying to forget his past while working as a security consultant.

His quiet life gets upended when his estranged daughter, Rebecca (Brown), disappears. Rebecca followed right in her dad’s footsteps to become an undercover FBI operative, but her latest mission goes completely dark. To save her, Matt has to jump back into a dangerous world of high-stakes espionage that has evolved far past anything he remembers.

Jinny Howe, Netflix’s Head of Scripted Series, teased that audiences will get to see the stars playing "estranged father and daughter on opposite sides of a crisis." This setup hints at a tense, fractured relationship that will give both actors plenty of heavy dramatic material to work with.

The Powerhouse Creative Team Behind the Show

Netflix did not pull any punches when assembling the talent behind the camera for this project. The series is created and written by Jack Thorne. Thorne is an absolute favorite over at Netflix, having written Millie’s hit Enola Holmes movies and co-created the streaming juggernaut Adolescence. A24 is producing the show. Known for delivering sharp, moody, and prestigious dramas, their involvement guarantees this will be far from a generic network procedural. Both Harbour and Brown are serving as executive producers. Millie’s husband, Jake Bongiovi, is also attached as an executive producer through PCMA Productions.

This announcement should finally silence the aggressive rumor mill that plagued the stars last year. Tabloids had a field day claiming that Millie filed a formal harassment complaint against David during the filming of the final Stranger Things season, alleging real-life tension on set.

Both actors have since completely cleared the air. David openly addressed the chatter, noting that when you spend ten years growing up and working tightly with someone, normal disagreements happen, but they always come back together like real family. Millie mirrored that warmth, expressing nothing but creative gratitude for their decade-long bond. Watching them hug it out on recent red carpets makes it clear that the off-screen drama was nothing but hot air.

Because the project is still in early development, Netflix has yet to schedule a formal release date. In the meantime, you can catch Millie in Enola Holmes 3, premiering on July 1, 2026.
