Marshals Season 2 Premiere Sends Kayce Rogue After Tate Is Kidnapped

Apparently Marshals has absolutely no intention of giving Kayce Dutton a relaxing start to Season 2.

CBS has revealed the storyline for the sophomore season premiere, “All Hat No Cattle,” and the stakes could not be more personal for Kayce: Tate has been taken hostage.

So yeah. Kayce is going rogue. According to CBS, Kayce launches a desperate race to save his son after realizing Tate has been taken. At the same time, the Marshals uncover a powerful criminal operation connected to the East Camp land grab, and the situation eventually leads to a violent showdown that puts everything Kayce cares about at risk.

Because threatening Kayce himself apparently wasn't enough. They went after his child. These people clearly did not do their homework.

The premiere immediately puts Kayce in the kind of situation that tests the line between his responsibilities as a Marshal and his instincts as a father. Whatever rules or procedures normally come with the job are probably going to be a little difficult to remember when his own son is the person in danger.

Tate's kidnapping also appears to be connected to something much bigger. While Kayce's immediate concern is obviously getting his son home safely, the Marshals' investigation uncovers the criminal operation tied to the East Camp land grab. That gives the premiere two layers to work with: the deeply personal fight to save Tate and the larger operation the team has to expose.

And CBS is already warning us that things turn violent. The network says a showdown will put everything Kayce cares about at risk, which certainly doesn't sound like Tate's kidnapping will be resolved with a quiet conversation and everybody heading home for dinner.

For a character whose story has long revolved around family, loyalty and how far he is willing to go to protect the people he loves, taking Tate is about as direct a way as possible to push Kayce to his limit.

It also gives Marshals a major personal storyline to launch its second season rather than simply sending the team after another criminal. This case isn't happening around Kayce. He's right in the middle of it, and his own family is paying the price. Now the question is how far Kayce will go to get Tate back — and what happens once he gets his hands on the people responsible.
