Jonathan Stoddard Interview: Inside the Faith-Fueled Western of Crossroads Springs

If you’re still wondering whether Westerns are having a second act, Crossroads Springs is here to make a convincing argument and Jonathan Stoddard is at the center of it. The actor, who plays James Hamilton, joined The TV Cave to dish on the series, his multi-faceted role, and even his own music sneaking into the storyline. Spoiler: it’s part faith, part family, all heart.

Stoddard opens up about what drew him to James Hamilton, a character balancing responsibility with personal calling. “There’s been more times than I can count where a project just hits at the right time in my life,” he says. James leaves the family ranch to pursue ministry in Chicago but is pulled back home when his father suffers an accident. The series explores not just the drama of ranch life but the internal tug-of-war between personal ambition and family duty, a theme Stoddard says resonates universally.

Beyond the moral crossroads, Stoddard also reveals a hidden talent making its debut on-screen: his music. The actor collaborated with country singer Jillian Cardarelli to write original songs for the series, blending faith-based storytelling with authentic ranch culture. “Blending two passions of mine… I love that,” he said, describing how the music evolved from simply performing existing songs to co-writing new material. Season one features four or five of these original tracks, adding a surprisingly modern touch to the classic Western vibe.

When it comes to genre, Stoddard refuses to pigeonhole himself. He loves diving into psychological thrillers, indie films, and lighthearted holiday rom-coms but he’ll happily return to ranch life for a good faith-and-family Western. “I like being exposed to different human experiences,” he says, “but I don’t want to live in a thriller—I just want to visit.”

As for the future of Crossroads Springs, Season Two promises deeper exploration of cowboy churches, ranch life, and community culture, keeping the show grounded in real-world stories while leaving room for new characters and fresh drama. Fans in the U.S. can catch the series on Great American Family and Pure Flix, with international platforms hosting it worldwide.

Between moral dilemmas, family tension, and a soundtrack that doubles as a love letter to modern ranch life, Jonathan Stoddard makes Crossroads Springs a Western worth watching. And if you’ve ever wondered how faith, family, and a touch of country music can coexist on screen, well, he’s living proof and giving us all a front-row seat.
