Three young adults lean on a stair railing in a white brick interior, looking seriously at the camera.

Remember when everyone told you that adulthood would be the best years of your life? Well, someone might owe you an apology. Paramount+ has announced that It Gets Worse, a new comedy from A24 and creator Leo Reich, will premiere November 6, bringing a painfully familiar look at what happens when growing up turns out to be one disappointment after another.

The six-episode series stars Reich, who also serves as an executive producer, and follows three university best friends trying to make sense of their increasingly underwhelming adult lives. Between miserable jobs, disappointing romantic prospects, and the realization that nobody seems to have a clue what they're doing, the trio begins questioning whether things are ever going to improve. Judging by the show's title, viewers probably shouldn't expect an inspirational speech to fix everything.

Adulthood Isn't Quite What They Were Promised

At the center of It Gets Worse are three friends whose post-university reality looks nothing like the future they imagined. They're dealing with the kind of personal and professional frustrations that can make even the smallest victory feel like a major accomplishment.

Rather than presenting adulthood as a journey toward stability and success, the comedy leans into the uncomfortable realization that getting older doesn't necessarily mean getting your life together. The characters are struggling with relationships, careers, and their own expectations, which should provide plenty of opportunities for awkward humor and questionable decisions.

It's a premise that feels particularly timely, especially for anyone who has ever looked at their bank account, their dating history, or their current job and wondered when the supposed good part of adulthood was scheduled to begin.

Andrew Scott and Lena Dunham Join the Cast

Reich is surrounded by an ensemble that includes Emily Fairn (House of Guinness), Olive Gray (Halo), Sean Delaney (Killing Eve), Dane Williams (House of David), India Mullen (Normal People), and comedian John Tothill, a 2025 Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee.

The guest-star lineup brings some additional recognizable faces into the mix. Andrew Scott, known for All of Us Strangers and Fleabag, is among those appearing in the series, alongside Girls creator Lena Dunham and Chicken Shop Date host Amelia Dimoldenberg.

It's an interesting collection of performers for a comedy that seems more interested in exposing the absurdities of everyday life than offering anyone a neat solution to their problems. And with Reich steering the creative direction, the series has an opportunity to give its familiar coming-of-age premise a sharper, more uncomfortable edge.

When Does 'It Gets Worse' Premiere?

All six episodes of It Gets Worse will arrive Friday, November 6, on Paramount+. In the United States, the SHOWTIME original will be available exclusively to subscribers on the Paramount+ Premium plan.

The series will also stream on Paramount+ in Latin America, Brazil, and Italy.

For viewers who enjoy comedies about messy friendships, disastrous relationships, and people trying to survive their twenties without completely falling apart, It Gets Worse could be one to add to the November watchlist.

After all, adulthood may not come with instructions, but at least this particular disaster comes with six episodes.
