Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen questions the strategy of the Greens, wondering why Lord Ormund Hightower is so intent on taking Tumbleton, given that it is merely a market town. She faces a moral dilemma, deeply conflicted about the prospect of unleashing dragonfire on a town that has already bent the knee to her. Ultimately, Rhaenyra accepts a plan from her council to march forces into Tumbleton and remove the Hightower men rather than burning it to the ground. In a move to stabilize her court, she also restores the Grand Maester to his seat on the council.
Meanwhile, Lord Corlys Velaryon is conspicuously absent from the council chambers. When Alyn informs him that the Queen has requested his presence, Corlys refuses, telling Alyn to take his place instead, claiming there is no longer any use for him there. Alyn is reluctant, but Corlys explains that while he cannot grant him legitimacy, this council seat is a rare opportunity for Alyn to elevate his standing.
Later, Rhaenyra questions Alicent Hightower about Lord Ormund's character. Alicent reveals a highly specific weakness: Ormund has an extreme sensitivity to smells. However, tensions remain high in Dragonstone as Rhaenyra discovers graffiti on the walls reading "Queen of Bastards."
The Reach: The Fall of Tumbleton
Lord Ormund Hightower successfully takes over Tumbleton. He and his men confront the local villagers guarding the area, warning them that the danger they face is immense. Despite the occupation, Ormund attempts to maintain a strict code of conduct; when one of his own soldiers attacks a group of Tumbleton residents, Ormund swiftly punishes the man to maintain order in front of the town.
However, it was not a genuine effort. Ormund makes a steep demand of Daeron Targaryen and makes him slay the villager involved in the incident.
The Crownlands: Criston & Aegon at Rook's Rest
Larys and Aegon come upon Sunfyre’s corpse. Aegon has a deep emotional reaction to seeing his dead dragon. Larys and Aegon finally reach Rook's Rest. The situation is grim; they are forced to surrender all their coin and perform hard labor just to earn a tent for shelter—much to the intense dismay of the recovering Aegon.
Daemon's Return to King's Landing
After journeying to the Vale to secure aid from Lady Jeyne Arryn Daemon is shocked to find Rhaena in a cave with Sheepstealer. He tells her Raynayer is hunting Sheepstealer’s rider and that she cannot trust a wild dragon. He begs her to get on a ship or come back to King’s landing with him but she vehemently refuses. She tells him that cannot leave Sheepstealer and she will live out the rest of her days in exile as her penitence for her contribution in Jace’s death. Daemon Targaryen returns to King's Landing bearing gold from the Vale and a grim trophy: a burnt head. Daemon stuns Rhaenyra by revealing that he was the one who has been riding Sheepstealer. Rhaenyra immediately presses him with questions, but Daemon offers only vague, elusive answers. Mysaria clearly harbors deep doubts about Daemon's story about sheepstealer’s rider.
Red Keep Revelations
Amidst the ongoing political and military chaos, Alicent makes a shocking domestic discovery: Queen Helaena Targaryen is pregnant.
