Gen V Season 2 Episode 8 “Trojan” Review: Godolkin’s Fall and a Rushed Finale

Six people stand under a streetlight at night, looking up intently. They wear casual clothes, creating a tense, mysterious mood.

We begin the episode back at the flashback with Godolkin that we saw at the beginning of the season. We see him injecting himself with V before he is burned alive. Greg says that he was the second puppet for Godolkin but the first one is dead. Marie is too weak to do anything to help Greg.

Jessica and Godolkin are in bed together and they’re talking about the future and all the things that he’s getting to experience now that he’s alive. Honestly, I’m not going to lie, Ethan Slater is not doing it for me as the big bad guy this season. He doesn’t come off in his actual form as someone I would or should be scared of. When he was in Greg’s body, I actually feared him and now, I’m just watching this nerdy man act like he’s going to take over the world and he’s not selling it for me.

We have a little Marie, Emma, and Cate bonding moment that I really enjoyed. It feels like they were all connecting about their traumas and how they are more than that. Emma goes to the bathroom and Marie tells Cate that she is sorry for what she did to her & she heals her. During this, Godolkin announces on social media that he is opening a seminar and resetting everyone’s class rank to zero. Which is basically just going to be a fight to the death with him controlling everyone. Marie and everyone says that they need to stop it by any means necessary.

Marie and Jordan talk about the seminar and they say that the only way to stop it is for Marie to go in there and stop it. And Jordan tells Marie that they can’t be together. I could feel the angst rising and I knew this was coming, but the handling of this situation felt very rushed. I don’t know if there were more episodes planned for this season, but it feels like other than the Godolkin storyline, a lot of everything else we’ve been working through this season is being rushed through this episode. The team is able to get into the seminar and they start to work towards taking Godolkin down. This was the one of the major highlights of the episode for me, this actually was one of the more well written & fleshed out parts of the episode because it didn’t feel rushed; this is what everyone has been waiting for since the betting of this season.

They’re able to take down and kill Godolkin with Polarity’s help. He tells them that it’s not going to be safe for them and they need to flee. Once again, I thought this scene was really good but the impact would have been stronger if the episode didn’t feel so rushed. I think a 10 episode order for this season or even an extended finale would’ve done the pacing wonders.

Overall, that’s my biggest complaint for the last half of this season and especially in the Finale. Most of the season I rated 4.5 or 5 stars because even with the pacing issues, I thought the writing and build up was worth it. As we inched closer to the finale, I felt like we were running out of time and it really shows in the finale. Overall, an enjoyable season with some pacing issues that were probably due to rewrites due to the death of a main cast member. I hope we get a longer season 3 to iron out all of these stories. I would rate this episode a 3.75/5 and I would give the season a 4/5.
