Taylor Sheridan Takes the Reins: Frisco King Replaces NOLA King in Major Tulsa King Shake-Up

A group of people at a dimly lit bar, raising glasses in a toast. Warm lighting creates a festive, relaxed atmosphere.

Just when you thought Taylor Sheridan’s plate was so full he’d need a second ranch just to store the scripts, the king of the "Paramount+ Cowboy Universe" has decided to clear his schedule, sort of. In a move that surprised exactly no one who follows the frantic pace of the Sheridan-verse, the previously announced Tulsa King spin-off is undergoing a massive identity crisis. Say goodbye to the Big Easy and hello to the Lone Star State: NOLA King is officially dead, long live Frisco King.

Out With the Jazz, In With the Stetson

Originally, we were promised a deep dive into the criminal underbelly of New Orleans with Samuel L. Jackson leading the charge. However, in a pivot that feels very much like Sheridan wanting to keep his production boots closer to his home turf, the series has been retitled and relocated to Frisco, Texas.

While fans of New Orleans noir might be disappointed, the shift to Frisco brings the spin-off into the heart of Sheridan’s Texas stronghold. This isn’t just a change of scenery; it’s a total creative overhaul. The move coincides with the departure of original showrunner Dave Erickson, who reportedly exited due to the classic "scheduling conflicts" excuse that usually translates to "Taylor has a different vision."

Sheridan Goes Solo (Again)

The biggest bombshell for The TV Cave readers isn't just the title change, it’s the workload. Taylor Sheridan is set to write all eight episodes of Frisco King himself. For those keeping track at home, Sheridan’s track record when he writes every single word is... intense. It ensures that signature grittiness and hyper-masculine dialogue we love, but it also means we should probably expect a lot of scenes involving expensive horses and men staring intensely at horizons.

Samuel L. Jackson remains attached to star as Russell Lee Washington Jr., the character introduced during the tail end of Tulsa King Season 3. Seeing Jackson chew through Sheridan’s dialogue is a match made in cable-drama heaven or at least, it’ll be the loudest show on television.

Why Frisco?

Frisco is one of the fastest-growing cities in America, making it a ripe setting for a story about power, expansion, and organized crime trying to find a foothold in a "clean" suburban landscape. Production is slated to kick off in late March 2026 in nearby Fort Worth, keeping the Sheridan machine humming right alongside the flagship series.

What This Means for the Tulsa-Verse

With Sylvester Stallone and Samuel L. Jackson now officially anchoring two sides of the same criminal coin, Paramount+ is clearly doubling down on the "Alpha Male" demographic. Frisco King aims to bridge the gap between the gritty realism of Yellowstone and the flashy, fish-out-of-water charm of Tulsa King.

As we wait for more casting news and a formal trailer, one thing is certain: if Taylor Sheridan is writing the whole thing, it’s going to be a wild, profanity-laced ride through North Texas. Stay tuned to The TV Cave for more updates, recaps, and the inevitable news that Sheridan has somehow found time to start a third spin-off set in a bowling alley.

Are you excited to see Samuel L. Jackson take on the Texas underworld, or do you think Taylor Sheridan is stretching himself too thin?
