‘Doc’ Season 3 Trailer Reveals Amy’s Complicated Past With Blair Underwood’s New Doctor

FOX is giving Doc fans a closer look at what’s ahead, and Season 3 is bringing a whole lot more than medical emergencies. The network has released the official Season 3 trailer for Doc, giving viewers a preview of Amy Larsen’s next chapter and the arrival of a new doctor who knows far more about her past than she does.

The medical drama returns Tuesday, September 22 at 9/8c on FOX, with Molly Parker back as Dr. Amy Larsen.

Season 3 introduces Blair Underwood as Dr. Ben Grant, who joins Westside Hospital as a new series regular. But Ben's arrival isn't exactly a simple professional change. He and Amy have a romantic history that Amy doesn't remember because of the eight years of memories she lost following her devastating car accident.

That makes their reunion particularly complicated. Ben knows what happened between them, while Amy is still trying to piece together the missing years of her life. The new trailer hints that Amy will begin experiencing memories connected to Ben, forcing her to question what really happened between them and whether she can trust him.

And Ben isn't exactly arriving at Westside quietly. The trailer shows him making it clear that he intends to shake things up at the hospital, including questioning Amy's position and influence. Suddenly, Amy has to deal with a new professional rival who also happens to be someone from her forgotten past.

There are plenty of changes happening around Amy as well. Season 3 introduces a new group of interns, with Barrett Carnahan, Raffa Virago, Cecilia Lee and Kolton Stewart joining the cast in recurring roles. Amy and Dr. Sonya Maitra will serve as co-chief residents as they take on the challenge of training the next generation of doctors.

The new interns bring very different personalities to Westside. Graham Barker, played by Carnahan, is charming, driven and determined to prove himself. Nikki De Silva, played by Virago, is an ambitious overachiever, while Ruth Chen, played by Lee, is empathetic and eager to help those around her. Stewart's Kyle Ferguson is the youngest of the group and a brilliant but inexperienced newcomer to the hospital environment.

Of course, Amy's complicated personal life isn't going anywhere. As she continues recovering memories from the eight years she lost, those memories are becoming increasingly tied to emotional moments and important relationships from her past, including Ben, Jake Heller and Michael Hamda.

That could make Season 3 one of Amy's most emotionally complicated chapters yet. She's not simply trying to remember who she was. She's discovering pieces of a life she lived without remembering it, and some of those discoveries could completely change how she sees the people around her.
