Days of Our Lives Shocker: Elia Cantu’s Exit as Jada Hunter Hits Hard

Smiling woman with long curly hair and dangling earrings poses in a maroon dress against a dark backdrop with yellow text.

Grab your tissues and maybe a stiff drink, Salem fans, because the revolving door at Peacock’s favorite soap opera just claimed another victim. Elia Cantu is leaving Days of Our Lives, officially wrapping up her four-year run as Detective Jada Hunter. The actress took to Instagram on June 10, 2026, to confirm what many feared after her contract status shifted earlier this year. Yes, girl, it is a sad day for the Salem PD, and honestly, not us feeling a certain way about losing one of the few sane minds in town.

Whew, where do we even begin? Rumors started swirling back in March 2026 when news broke that both Cantu and her on-screen partner-in-crime-fighting, Galen Gering (Rafe Hernandez), were bumped from full contract status down to recurring.

In the soap world, that is usually a massive red flag. It is the television equivalent of a text saying, "We need to talk."

Cantu’s announcement confirms she is ready for her next chapter, thanking the crew, her castmates, and the fans who rallied behind Jada since her July 2022 debut. While it is always great to see talented actors spread their wings, losing Jada leaves a massive hole in the canvas.

Let's look at the facts. Jada arrived in Salem as the daughter of the late Dr. Marcus Hunter, carrying a heavy legacy but immediately carving out her own identity. She wasn't just another pretty face in a town full of models; she actually did her job. While other residents were busy getting possessed, faking their deaths, or switching babies, Jada was busy solving actual crimes.

During her tenure, Cantu carried some heavy material. We watched her navigate Aa messy, heartbreaking pregnancy storyline with Eric Brady, the turbulent office politics of the Salem PD, Aa slow-burn, complicated romance with Rafe and her current, budding relationship with legacy character Shawn Brady. Cantu brought a grounded, no-nonsense energy to a show that frequently flies off the rails. She made Jada fiercely independent, deeply human, and completely unforgettable.

Before you completely lose your mind, there is a bit of good news. Because Days of Our Lives famously tapes its episodes roughly 10 months in advance, Elia Cantu will remain on our screens for a long time. Jada’s final scenes likely won't air until late 2026 or even early 2027.

This gives the writers plenty of time to give the character a proper send-off. Currently, Jada is getting closer to Shawn Brady, a storyline that has plenty of potential to deliver major emotional beats before she walks out of the Salem PD doors for the last time. Will she get a happy ending, or will Salem do what it does best and break our hearts?

The departure marks the end of a fantastic era for Jada Hunter, but Elia Cantu’s future looks incredibly bright. Salem won't be the same without its sharpest detective on the beat.
