CNN Renews Have I Got News For You for Season 5: Satire Is Staying Put (For Once)

Five people sit at a colorful news panel with a large "HAVE I GOT NEWS FOR YOU" sign behind them. They appear engaged and cheerful.

CNN has done something shocking: they made a good programming decision. The network officially announced that Have I Got News For You has been renewed for Season 5, ensuring that our Saturday nights will continue to feature a healthy dose of mockery. The satirical panel series has quickly grown from a quirky experiment into a ratings anchor for the network’s weekend lineup.

The Unstoppable Trio Returns to the Desk

At the heart of the renewal is the return of the central trio. Roy Wood Jr. will back behind the host desk, proving once again that leaving The Daily Show was the best career move he could have made. Wood balances the panel with an deadpan delivery that anchors the hour, preventing the guest comics from running entirely off the rails.

Flanking him are permanent team captains Amber Ruffin and Michael Ian Black. Their comedic chemistry provides the exact kind of high-energy friction the show needs. Ruffin delivers her signature enthusiastic, theatrical takedowns of modern political absurdity, which pairs perfectly against Black’s deeply sarcastic, exhausted-intellectual persona.

Together with a rotating couch of journalists, politicians, and actors, they manage to make the exhausting, 24-hour news cycle actually feel tolerable for an hour.

The Numbers Don't Lie: Why CNN Ordered More

While television purists can argue over the comedy, the television executives are looking at the math. CNN insiders are understandably ecstatic about the series performance, as the show recently delivered its largest cable audience to date.

Beyond traditional cable boxes, the series has also solved CNN’s long-standing streaming puzzle. Episodes regularly land in the HBO Max Top 10 the day after their television premiere, capturing the younger audience that refuses to pay for a standard cable bundle.

What to Expect From Season 5

The fifth season is scheduled to premiere on September 12, 2026, at 9:00 PM ET/PT on CNN. Hat Trick Productions will continue to handle production duties, ensuring the American version retains the distinct, fast-paced structure of the legendary 71-season British original.

The next season will have no shortage of material to pull from, given the ongoing state of global politics. For a network that usually reports the news with somber graphics and dramatic music, letting Wood and his team filter the headlines through a comedy blender is exactly what the audience needs.
