Zatima Season 4B on Paramount+ Proves Zac and Fatima Still Carry This Franchise

A man and woman converse in a kitchen. The woman wears a blue blazer and looks concerned. The man in a blue shirt listens intently.

Tyler Perry’s favorite spin-off couple is officially back on our screens, and they brought a houseful of baggage with them. Zatima Season 4B made its exclusive debut on Paramount+, dragging the internet's most fiercely debated couple into a brand-new chapter of domestic drama. For a show born out of a Sistas sidebar, Zac and Fatima continue to prove they can carry a network on their backs, even when the writing threatens to derail the entire vehicle.

The midseason premiere waste no time establishing the new status quo. In Episode 11, "Protect & Serve," and Episode 12, "Court of...", the show attempts a tricky balancing act: maturing its central couple while letting the supporting cast run completely wild.

Growing Pains and Bodyguards

The biggest victory of Season 4B so far is Courtney Glaudé’s script pacing. Zac (Devale Ellis) and Fatima (Crystal Renee Hayslett) are finally allowed to breathe, talk, and act like a real couple transitioning into parenthood. When Zac unilaterally hires a massive new bodyguard to protect a pregnant Fatima, the old Zatima playbook dictates three episodes of screaming matches. Instead, viewers get a refreshing dose of emotional maturity. Fatima initially bristles, processes her raging hormones, realizes her man is just trying to protect their future, and actually apologizes. It is a shocking display of adult communication for a Tyler Perry production.

Naturally, that maturity is balanced out by the sudden arrival of Connie. After a convenient apartment fire leaves her displaced, Zac opens up their couch to her. If you had "unwanted house guest testing a pregnant woman's last nerve" on your Season 4B bingo card, collect your winnings at the door.

The Supporting Cast Drags the Momentum

While the titular couple shows signs of actual evolution, the surrounding circle remains firmly stuck in place. The series continues to treat its secondary characters like a mandatory chore list. Fatima spending Episode 12 escorting Connie to a custody hearing keeps the narrative moving, but the B-plots are actively draining the energy from the main event.

The real culprit here is Angela. Her sudden, neck-snapping romantic pivot toward Fatima’s newly hired bodyguard immediately after a date with Sean, feels less like organic character development and more like lazy storytelling. Watching her and Bryce stumble through their respective subplots feels like a distraction from the meat of the show. Video essayists and fans are already clocking Episode 12 with lower marks, and it is entirely due to the secondary characters dragging down the main momentum.

The Paramount+ Verdict

Zatima Season 4B proves that Devale Ellis and Crystal Renee Hayslett still possess the sharp chemistry that launched this spin-off in the first place. When the focus stays locked on their household, the show works. When it wanders off into the messy thicket of their friends' dating lives, it stumbles.
