Danny Reagan may have survived his first year in Boston, but Season 2 is already preparing to put a major decision in front of him.
CBS has revealed details for the Boston Blue Season 2 premiere, “The Crash,” and Danny will face what the network describes as a “career-defining promotion.” Before he has much time to think about that, though, Boston has a serial killer problem.
A series of murders begins mirroring the infamous Boston Strangler killings, forcing Danny and Lena to race against time to identify and stop a copycat before another victim is killed. As fear spreads across the city, they won't be handling the investigation alone.
Jonah and Sean are coming off their rookie year and jump into the case, while Henry Reagan also lends a hand in tracking down the killer. Meanwhile, Lena discovers a lead that could connect the attack on Detective Rodgers to a powerful figure.
That's a lot happening in one premiere, but Danny's potential promotion may have the biggest implications beyond the episode itself.
The Reagan family has always been deeply tied to law enforcement, and Boston Blue has allowed Danny to establish a new chapter of his career away from New York. A promotion could significantly alter what that chapter looks like — depending, of course, on exactly what CBS means by “career-defining.”
And no, the network isn't telling us what the position is yet. Rude. Between the promotion, the copycat murders and Lena potentially uncovering something much larger involving Rodgers, Season 2 already appears ready to push Danny further into his new Boston life rather than simply recreating what he had back in New York.
What are you most excited about in this new season?
Boston Blue Season 2 premieres Friday, Oct. 9 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS and streams on Paramount+.
