Title: Bones at the Crossroads (Audio)
Author: LaDarrion Williams
Genre: Fantasy YA
Rating: LOVE
Narrators: Jalyn Hall and LaDarrion Williams.
Synopsis: It’s homecoming season at Caiman University and Malik Baron is focusing on classes and the upcoming dance. While he tries to get a firmer grasp of this new world and his family’s ancestral magic, more of his family’s story and the truths about his parents come to light. Leaving Malik with more questions than answers about who he really is and what he’s meant for. Thankfully he can always count on his friends, new and old, to have his back.
Thoughts: This series just keeps getting better and better.
LaDarrion Williams has beautifully blended history, magic and Black boy joy into the pages and I am hooked.
Malik’s struggle to understand who he is and where he fits, not just within his own historically famous family, but within the Caiman U world, is real and honest. The bonds he’s building with his friends and mentors continues to both fray and strengthen in this follow up to the can’t miss Blood at the Root.
With shocking revelations, new family and friends, and the twists that come with growing up and young love, this book is a can’t miss for any fantasy lover. The world of Caiman U is beautiful and vast and I can’t wait to see what happens next with Malik and his friends as they continue to navigate young adulthood, magic and society. Quotes:
“...it’s some old fashioned and sexist heteronormative, backwards ass shit.”
-Savon
“Can I please kiss you?”
-Malik
