Beyond the Gates is bringing Homecoming season to Fairmont Crest, and this one comes with plenty of family history, school pride and a whole lot of crimson and gold.

CBS announced that the daytime drama will celebrate the traditions of historically Black colleges and universities with a special Banneker University Homecoming storyline airing across the Friday, October 2 and Monday, October 5 episodes. The fictional university has deep ties to the Dupree family, making the celebration more than just another event on the Fairmont Crest social calendar.

Five generations of the Dupree family have attended Banneker University, according to CBS, giving the school a major place in the family’s history. That connection will be front and center as the Duprees and other residents of Fairmont Crest gather at the family home for a Homecoming tailgate before heading to the game.

Of course, this is Beyond the Gates, so even a tailgate gets the full treatment. The group will be decked out in Banneker’s signature crimson and gold before boarding a bus to the game, where the celebration continues with everyone singing the university’s fight song, “Fight On.”

More Than Just a Homecoming Episode

Since its debut, Beyond the Gates has made Black culture, history and achievement part of the show’s identity rather than something reserved for occasional special episodes. The Banneker Homecoming storyline continues that approach by weaving a recognizable HBCU tradition directly into the history of one of the show’s central families.

Homecoming at an HBCU is more than a football game. For generations of students and alumni, it is a celebration of community, legacy and returning home, and tying that tradition to five generations of Duprees gives the storyline an extra layer of meaning.

It also expands what viewers know about the family beyond the drama happening inside Fairmont Crest. The Duprees already represent generations of Black success, wealth and influence, and establishing Banneker University as another piece of that legacy makes their family history feel even richer.

Banneker Pride Takes Over Fairmont Crest

The two-episode celebration arrives as Beyond the Gates continues its first full year on CBS and heads into fall with no shortage of drama surrounding the Dupree family and their neighbors.

For at least a couple of episodes, though, Fairmont Crest is trading some of that drama for a good old-fashioned Homecoming celebration. And considering how this neighborhood operates, getting this many people together for a tailgate and bus ride without something happening might be the biggest plot twist of all.

Beyond the Gates airs weekdays at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT on CBS and streams on Paramount+.
