B&B September 4 Recap: Will Chooses Dylan as Katie Calls Out the Red Flags

Woman in a navy polka-dot dress and pearl necklace stands in a fashion office, with sketches and a FORESTER MEN sign behind her.

Beach House Drama

At the beach house, Will tells Katie that it is perfectly normal that Dylan didn’t tell her family she was homeless, living in her car, living with him, OR working at Forrester Creations. Thankfully, Katie tells her Willy Bear that is dumb as all get out! Dylan explains that she wanted a new life, but Katie points out that Dylan just happened to connect with Will, whose family’s magazines were all over her home.

Will apologizes for Katie being a snob, but Katie tells her very dumb son that it is NOT normal for a girl he just met to already be declaring her love for him. Katie has heard enough and insists that Will kick Dylan out, but Will refuses. Katie then declares that Dylan is not good enough for her son, and you know just at that exact moment, Darcy walks into Will’s home. Because of course she does.

Forrester Design Room

At Forrester Creations, Electra reminisces about Will when RJ walks into the design room and suggests they brainstorm with Zende on Monday. RJ quickly notices that Electra is distracted and realizes she is thinking about Will. He pushes Electra to tell him what is on her mind, and she admits that she believes she ruined things with Will.

Electra FINALLY acknowledges that she overreacted when Will couldn’t tell her that Logan was working on a jewelry line. She admits she understands corporate secrets and knows Will couldn’t disclose the company’s plans. RJ points out that the secrecy still hurt Electra and their entire family.

SIDE NOTE: RJ, you are exactly right — the FAMILY! The two of you are FAMILY. Yes, I know you are not biologically related, but this weird pursuit of your damn cousin is just YUCK!!!

Darcy Confronts Katie

Back at the beach house, Darcy wastes no time confronting Katie. She tells Katie that she had no right to speak to her daughter as though she is somehow better than Dylan. Darcy launches into a tirade about Katie having jets and skyscrapers while she only has a boat and a small house, but despite those differences, Darcy insists that they are the same on the inside.

Darcy then starts listing Dylan’s accomplishments, pointing out that her daughter was a ballerina and dancer and was someone her high school classmates regularly turned to for advice. Katie responds with a VERY interesting question: Would Dylan’s friend Electra go to her for advice? Good ONE, KATIE!!

Darcy becomes angry and yells, “You do not know my daughter!” Right, Darcy. That is the ENTIRE POINT Katie is making. Dylan tries to calm things down and acknowledges that her behavior looks suspicious, explaining that she only kept everything from her mother because she didn’t want Darcy to worry. Dylan asks whether Katie can at least understand her reasoning for not telling her mom what was really happening.

Electra’s Realization

Electra admits to RJ that she wasn’t perfect in her relationship with Will. She also acknowledges that what happened between them isn’t Dylan’s fault because Electra had Will and ultimately gave him up. RJ reminds Electra that her career is on the rise, and the two celebrate the news that their fashion line has officially been greenlit.

RJ then admits that he has discovered some things about himself through everything that has happened. He acknowledges that he came on too strong in the beginning and put Electra in a difficult situation with Will. While RJ doesn’t like the approach he took, he still doesn’t approve of the way Will treated her. For now, RJ says his only focus will be making their new line a success.

Dylan Defends Herself

Dylan tells Katie that she only wanted to make her mother proud. Her plan was to establish herself in Los Angeles and then bring Darcy out to show her everything she had accomplished, including introducing her to the man she loves. Darcy is surprised to hear that her daughter is really in love, and Dylan confirms it: she loves Will. Katie responds with an eye roll because, at this point, what else is there for her to do?

Katie points out that Dylan has never exactly hidden her feelings for Will. In fact, those very feelings cost Dylan her best friend, but Dylan insists that she is not a homewrecker. Darcy explains that Dylan’s father walked out on them and, ever since then, it has just been the two of them. She decides they have had enough and tells Dylan they need to leave.

As Darcy and Dylan prepare to walk out, Will stops them and makes it clear that Dylan isn’t going anywhere. Needless to say, Dylan is elated, while Katie has now watched her son completely dismiss every concern she raised about his new relationship.

My Thoughts

Katie was easily the MVP of this episode. She asked the tough questions that Will seemed afraid to ask. Every explanation Dylan gives sounds reasonable on its own, but the problem is that when you put all of the secrets together, they become much harder to overlook. Meanwhile, Will continues to dismiss every concern put in front of him, making him look incredibly naïve.

And no matter how much the show tries to convince me otherwise, the RJ and Electra scenes still feel awkward because of the family connection. You can explain the biology all day long, but that doesn’t suddenly make those scenes less uncomfortable to watch.

The biggest takeaway from today’s episode is that despite all the red flags Katie raised, Will has officially chosen Dylan. The question now is whether Katie is being overly suspicious or whether she’s the only person who sees what’s really going on.
