DAYS September 4 Recap: A Mysterious Figure Watches Chad, Belle and EJ

Tate and Holly

Holly shows up at Tate’s gym. Tate thinks they were supposed to meet later, but Holly needed to kiss her man! She tells Tate about the creepy guy who tried to rob her with a knife. Holly initially thought it was someone connected to EJ, but she later found out the man has a history of robbery.

Tate asks if anyone else witnessed the incident besides Lani. Holly tells him Mason saw what happened, but he seemed more concerned about Lani and basically ignored her. Tate jokes that he can beat Mason up if he isn’t nice to Holly.

Eventually, they get tired of talking about Mason and decide to literally hit the shower together. Things quickly heat up between the two. LOL.

Leo’s New Scheme

Leo is in Horton Square when he summons Gabi. She immediately lets him know she is not going to talk about Javi anymore. Leo says that while he is always thinking about Javi, this conversation is actually about Gabi — specifically, the counterfeit bags.

Leo tells Gabi he is interested in helping her take down EJ and reveals that he has made a connection with someone selling the fake bags. He believes he can use his impressive investigative skills to work his way up from the low-level flunky to the MAIN man behind the counterfeit operation. There is just one little problem: Leo needs Gabi to give him $25,000 so his new connection knows he is serious. Gabi is skeptical, but she ultimately agrees to provide the money if it helps them get to the bottom of everything.

Leo also suggests that Gabi speak to Chad and try to get information about EJ from him. Gabi points out that while she and Chad are now cordial, that does not mean he is going to help her. Leo argues that if Chad can forgive him, maybe Gabi has a chance too. Gabi begins to contemplate the idea.

SIDE NOTE: Clearly, Leo hasn’t done all of his homework. Gabi caused plenty of drama for Chad and his dearly departed wife Abigail. Their relationship may be civil now, but that doesn’t mean Chad is about to start handing over information.

Chanel Wants Answers

Chanel is at the apartment when the doorbell rings. She answers and finds a gift bearing a Phoenix crest. Johnny comes out and asks who was at the door, and Chanel tells him the package is a baby gift from his father.

Johnny explains that after his attempted murder trial, he said he would like to have his father back in his life. Chanel points out that this feels different. From her perspective, Johnny now seems to be completely in lockstep with EJ. Chanel also reveals that she overheard Marlena telling Johnny that she believes EJ has pulled him into something bad beyond simply honoring Lexie’s wish to die in peace. Chanel wants the truth with no distractions: Has EJ pulled Johnny into something illegal or immoral? Johnny lies to Chanel and insists he has not been pulled into anything or helped cover up something he knows his father did. Chanel says she believes him, and the two decide to open EJ’s gift.

Airport DiMera Drama

At the airport’s DiMera suite, EJ informs Chad and Belle that he is traveling to Italy with them because he plans to visit Sydney. Chad points out that some advance notice would have been nice.

EJ asks Belle if she has a problem with him joining them. Belle says she doesn’t mind him being a third wheel, especially since he apparently provided some very expensive champagne. There is just one problem: EJ tells his former sister-in-law and lover that he did NOT send the champagne.

Belle immediately spits what she is drinking directly into EJ’s face. She apologizes but points out that the bottle could be poisoned! Chad examines it and notices the label has been altered. He and Belle quickly realize that the champagne is actually another clue in their growing mystery.

EJ states the obvious: Chad and Belle are following a series of clues without much of an actual strategy. Naturally, he offers to help. Belle and Chad both reject the offer and tell EJ he should concentrate on visiting Sydney.

EJ uses the opportunity to reveal that Sydney has finished her MBA and is going into law, just like him. He then turns the conversation back to the mystery and asks what clue led Chad and Belle to Italy. Belle explains that a pawn was missing from Marlena’s gift. Chad suggests they could use Dr. Rolf’s help since he may be the person sending the clues in the first place. EJ attempts to call Rolf, but then he makes another discovery: his father’s ring is missing.

The Mystery Deepens

Tate and Holly continue kissing in the gym shower as their reunion heats up. At least they are already in the shower.

Meanwhile, Chanel and Johnny open EJ’s gift and discover a beautiful silver cup that matches the one Johnny received for Trey. Johnny says EJ loves his grandchildren, and Chanel acknowledges that EJ loves the kids equally even though Trey is not biologically a DiMera.

Still, Chanel worries about the cost that comes with being a DiMera. She wonders whether Johnny is conflicted between what she needs from him and what it means to be part of his family. Johnny pulls her into an embrace and assures her that nothing is more important than Chanel and the kids.

Gabi calls Chad and tells him that DiMera is the sole reason behind the counterfeit bags. She asks him to try to get information out of EJ, but Chad tells her that he and Belle are heading to Italy and abruptly ends the conversation.

EJ steps away to call Rita, who is sitting inside the DiMera mansion, and asks whether she has seen his missing ring. Rita claims she hasn’t but assures him that the ring will turn up. Once EJ ends the call, Rita stands, picks up the ring from the coffee table, and looks respectfully toward Stefano’s portrait.

Back at the airport, Chad asks Belle whether she is really okay with EJ joining them. Belle says she doesn’t have much of a choice, but the plan is simple: drop EJ off with Sydney and then solve the mystery together. Chad and Belle begin to kiss, but EJ returns before they can get very far. The three prepare to head to Italy.

Then comes the episode’s biggest twist. A mysterious person pours the same champagne that was gifted to Belle and Chad while sitting near a photo of Stefano. The person moves the pawn on a chessboard while watching a live video feed of Chad, Belle, and EJ at the airport. Someone is definitely watching the DiMeras.

My Thoughts

The mystery was by far the strongest part of today’s episode. Between the altered champagne bottle, the missing pawn, Stefano’s missing ring, and the mysterious observer monitoring Chad, Belle, and EJ, the writers continue adding layers to what is becoming a very intriguing storyline.

Johnny’s lie to Chanel is another major red flag. The more he insists he isn’t involved in anything shady, the more obvious it becomes that he knows far more than he is admitting.

As for Tate and Holly, their scenes were exactly what you would expect from a young soap couple: lots of kisses, lots of chemistry, and very little concern about finding a more private location than a gym shower.
