'9-1-1' Season 8 Episode 15 "Lab Rats" Review

9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 15, 'Lab Rats' will forever go down as the episode that officially made me cry ugly, nasty tears. The show really went there with an emotional unexpected (we saw the spoilers pics but hoped it was a fake out) farewell to an original cast member. Let’s get into the recap.

The hunt is on for the villain Moira who is now trying to sell the cure to the virus she created to other pharmaceutical companies. Hot on her trail are Buck and Athena (I just love when they team up) who Bobby sent (through coded message to Athena) to go after her because the military and the FBI would not give the cure to Chimney if they find her first. 

Chimney is losing more blood and Ravi passes out. Everyone’s oxygen tank is running low and they have to use the air tanks in the room as well as create their own saline to slow down Chimney’s symptoms. Ravi wakes up and he and Bobby get back to helping Chimney. During the chaos, Bobby and Chimney have an emotional exchange where Chimney asks Bobby to look after his family. Bobby promises his family will be ok (he knows, but we don’t at this point).

Athena is able to get the crime scene photos and they go to Karen for help to view them. She also enlists the help of another officer to find the car Moira stole. When they catch up with Moira the military and FBI are right behind them but luckily Buck already called Tommy in to fly them out. In a first, we see a high speed chase with helicopters in the air. 9-1-1 sure does know how to up the ante.  Also at this point, just put Tommy and Buck back together. The will they/won’t they is getting stale. 

They get the cure to Chimney in time and everyone begins to leave except Bobby who goes back in and shuts the door, he tells Buck that he loves him and everyone will look to him. Buck realizing what is happening radios Athena to come in. 

When she arrives Bobby tells Buck to leave because he wants to be alone with his wife. When he removes his mask he is

bleeding and showing the same signs as Chimney. His air tube had a hole and was damaged most likely in the explosion.

Athena is shocked (like we all are that did not see the spoiler pics) and begs for him to fight, for them to try anything but Bobby says it was too late and he wasn’t going to take the cure from Chimney. He apologizes because he did not want to leave her like this, he did not want to leave her at all. 

The music begins to play as we see everyone’s reaction to the news and Bobby gets on his knees to pray and dies as Athena looks on, tears streaming down her face (and now mine).

This show has never made me cry, had me on the edge of my seat but never tears until now. 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 15, 'Lab Rats' deserves an Emmy and all the awards. I am unwell, an emotional wreck. I have said the cast needs a shakeup, when I said “a death”, I meant Eddie, he was right there and moved away, but not Bobby. Athena losing both her husbands in the line of duty is nasty work. Chimney will now feel nothing but guilt and Buck lost his only father figure. How will the 118 recover from this? How will the fans?
