2026 Tony Nominations Are Here and Broadway’s Biggest Shows Are Ready to Battle

Set your alarms and prep your jazz hands, because the 2026 Tony nominations dropped this morning, and the list is exactly as dramatic as a backstage meltdown at intermission. Uzo Aduba and Darren Criss took to the podium to announce who will be vying for a silver medallion at Radio City Music Hall on June 7, and while some favorites sailed through, others were left wondering if they should have stayed in tech rehearsals a little longer.

Leading the charge in what feels like a heavyweight bout for the Best New Musical title are The Lost Boys and Schmigadoon!. Both productions managed to snag double-digit nominations, proving that whether you want vampires or meta-musical satire, Broadway has a very specific flavor of escapism for you this year. Schmigadoon! in particular seems to be the industry's favorite child, leaning heavily into the "we love ourselves" trope that Tony voters find irresistible.

In the Best New Play category, things look a bit more intellectual. The Balusters and Little Bear Ridge Road are the frontrunners, though the inclusion of Giant suggests the committee still has a soft spot for sweeping, ambitious storytelling. Meanwhile, the revival categories are essentially a nostalgia trip. Seeing Cats: The Jellicle Ball go head-to-head with The Rocky Horror Show for Best Musical Revival is the kind of campy showdown that makes the theater world actually worth paying attention to.

The acting races provided the usual mix of "well, obviously" and "who?" Nathan Lane and Carrie Coon grabbed their expected nods, while the legendary June Squibb, at 96 years young, proved that age is just a number—and that number is likely to be "Tony Winner" come June.

As Pink prepares to host the ceremony, the stage is set for a night that will likely be long, occasionally confusing, and filled with more sequins than a craft store explosion. Whether your favorite show got snubbed or swept, one thing is certain: Broadway is back, it’s loud, and it’s ready to judge you for not knowing the lyrics to the opening number.

Which of this year's nominees are you rooting for? Head over to the comments and let us know who was robbed!
