Star Trek Strange New Worlds “Through the Lens of Time”, Season 3, Episode 5 This is a truly cerebral, sometimes spooky episode that incorporates alien possession, logic, aliens, science, scientific theory, belief in the unknown, and the fact that we don’t know everything, even science geeks. One important lesson learned is that not all aliens are good aliens. Another showed how ancient M’Kroons actually achieved immortality, and it is literally at a weird molecular level.  It’s sad they had to lose one of the characters that became a favorite, in the process. Pelia/Carole Kane gives another superb performance.There’s also a little cliffhanger before the end of the episode. It may resurface in a future episode. This episode has classic potential. Side Note: Good to see they are developing the Beto character. He brings a touch of social media to the canvas . Nurse Chapel and Dr. Korby are excited. They are about to make history with a discovery they believe can affect how we view immortality and corporeal transference on the molecular biology level. Their discovery is found on the M’Kroon planet. They found ancient technology with data based on reincarnation and resurrection. This could have the answer to immortality. In sick bay, Ensign Gambel/Chris Myers is enjoying his assignment on the USS Enterprise. Every day is a new experience, and he’s loving every moment of it. He has dreamed of this opportunity ever since he graduated from StarFleet Academy. Another dream is about to come true for him,  thanks to Dr. M’Benga. After six requests, he finally gets to go on his first away team mission. His life will never be the same again. Dr. M’Benga is very impressed with Ensign Gambel and has requested he accompany the Vadia Nine landing party team on this momentous occasion. Ensign Gambel is so excited he gives Dr. M’Benga a hug. He rushes off to the landing party briefing, and now it’s Ensign Gambel’s time to shine. Before beaming down to the planet’s surface, Nurse Chapel eases Dr. Korby’s worries. She tells him the Enterprise is ready and will provide all the support needed to access the ancient archeological site. She assures him that Starfleet is not going to take over this new dig he discovered. She distracts him with jokes. She assures him that they need Starfleet to get to the planet's surface. Korby transports down, and Chapel will follow him with the rest of the landing party.La ’an passes Nurse Chapel in the hall with a quick greeting as she hurries away. Chapel follows her to ask her how Spock is. La’an tells her he’s fine. Chapel knows that there’s something happening between Spock and La’an since she dumped him. She tells Chapel if she’s worried about how Spock behaves around Korby, she should ask him herself and not try to indirectly get it from her. She walks off. Later, there’s an awkward exchange between Nurse Chapel and Spock in the elevator. Chapel basically tries to tell Spock to act right with Dr. Korby when they get to the archeological site. Spock assures her he will ensure everything goes smoothly. Just at that moment, the elevator stops and Ensign Gamble joins them as they all head to the briefing room. Ensign Gambel quietly says he interrupted something, and gets no response from Chapel or Spock. The landing party meets with the senior staff in the briefing room. Ensign Gambel and Beto Ortegas are the novice landing party members. Humberto (Beto) Ortegas, documentarian, is recording Enterprise’s current roster of missions for the Federation Centennial. He’s there filming the briefing, annoying Captain Pike and Number One. Commander Pelia is more than happy to pose for Beto’s camera any time he wants. Captain Pike acknowledges Chapel as the landing party lead. She gives them an update on what to expect once they get to the site. She is vexed that Spock chose to remain on the ship and won’t be down on the planet.  Gambel, Beto, Uhura and Chapel beam to the planet’s surface. Korby is already there with the M’Kroon representative, N’Jal.  A cute moment is when Gambel rushes over to N’Jal to try and shake his hand. N’Jal says nothing. Korby goes to Chapel and excitedly shows her the magnetic anomaly that was discovered. He says there’s some form of advanced technology possibly beneath their feet. They set up their equipment. Beto interrupts Uhura long enough to flirt. They are a cute couple. Chapel interrupts them and gets Uhura refocused on the mission. Chapel contacts Captain Pike to activate the deflector beam. They unearth a huge structure. Chapel requests a bigger landing party.  La’an and Spock beam down. The entrance to the structure is tricky. Uhura finds an access panel, and tries to gain entry. Korby and Chapel think the M’Kroons are direct descendants from an ancient civilization that could travel across multiple galaxies. Spock is skeptical. Chapel and Korby say their secrets to immortality were created by quantum instability at a molecular level. This even fascinated La’an. Uhura says the ancient language translation states they need a blood sacrifice to enter the structure. Korby is about to cut himself and bleed all over the place, but Chapel stops him. She finds another way. The door opens and things happen once they enter. Ensign Gambel’s life does change. Captain Batel’s internal Gorn gets triggered at a level she didn’t know existed. They find orbs that contain entities and dead bodies, evil, and crew members technically disappear. They exist on different dimensional planes, experience shifting realities, and they lose one of their own, a wonderful asset to the Enterprise. They get locked inside the structure and need faith and belief in the cause and effect theory to escape.

Sorry, Baby (2025) Film Review  I had never heard of Eva Victor before, but in 2025 they made a striking entrance into the world of filmmaking with their directorial debut Sorry, Baby—a film they also star in alongside Naomi Ackie and Lucas Hedges. After all the praise and acclaim the film has garnered, I was eager to check it out. So, how was it? Here are my thoughts. Victor has crafted a compelling and intimate character study that bravely explores the aftermath of sexual assault. It asks: What do you do after something traumatic happens to you? The film doesn't just present trauma—it dwells in the messy, confusing, painful fallout of it, making space for reflection, discomfort, and emotional honesty. Though I’ve never personally experienced what the film portrays, I know people who have, and this narrative felt deeply empathetic and grounded in truth. As a director, Victor demonstrates a clear vision. Despite working with a relatively new crew, the film boasts impressive production values. The cinematography is gorgeous and naturalistic, creating an immersive visual language that fits the rawness of the story. The editing is smooth and effective, helping the narrative unfold in a way that feels organic and emotionally resonant. Victor also impresses as a performer, delivering a vulnerable and layered performance that anchors the film. They’re well-supported by an excellent cast—Naomi Ackie, Lucas Hedges, and John Carroll Lynch all shine in their roles, adding depth and nuance to the ensemble. It’s genuinely impressive how Victor balances acting and directing so seamlessly, especially on a debut. Overall, Sorry, Baby is a powerful and important film. It’s not the most polished or groundbreaking film of the year, but it deserves attention and discussion. It offers a sincere and unflinching portrayal of personal recovery and emotional aftermath, marking Eva Victor as a bold new voice in independent cinema. Final Verdict: A strong and moving debut worth watching for its emotional depth, powerful performances, and meaningful storytelling. Rating: ★★★★½ (4.5/5) – 9/10

Okay, so Wednesday  is back on Netflix with Season 2 Part 1, and honestly, it’s exactly the creepy, quirky ride we signed up for—mostly. Jenna Ortega returns as the ultimate deadpan queen, and while the story sometimes feels like it’s juggling one too many creepy plot threads, it still delivers enough dark fun to keep you bingeing. Here’s my take on what’s working, what’s dragging, and why you should definitely give it a shot (even if you have zero patience for slow burns). Back to Nevermore and All Its Strange Glory If you loved the first season’s spooky school vibes and weird family drama, you’ll feel right at home. Wednesday Addams is back, and she’s got a new problem—a stalker who’s creepier than your average obsessed fan, plus a murder mystery involving murder crows because, yes, that’s a thing now. Add in the looming threat of the LOIS program (which stands for Long-term Outcast Integration Study, because acronyms are scary too), and you’ve got yourself a stew of secrets and suspicions. Jenna Ortega absolutely owns this role. Her sarcastic, deadpan delivery is flawless, and she somehow manages to make Wednesday’s morbid obsessions both hilarious and strangely relatable. I swear, every time she rolls her eyes or gives that “I’m done with humanity” look, I’m right there with her. Creepy Conspiracies and a Side of Slow Burn Here’s the deal—this part of the season takes its sweet time setting things up. The first couple of episodes felt like they were dragging a bit. Definitely a character who keeps you on edge, even if the pacing gets a little sluggish before she fully creeps in. Plot-wise, there’s a lot happening—visions of Enid’s death, dark family secrets, school rituals, and that whole murder crow mystery. Sometimes it feels like the show is trying to do too much at once, which can get a little confusing if you’re not paying full attention. But hey, it’s a gothic soap opera with supernatural twists, so some chaos is kind of the point. New Faces and Familiar Faves One of the highlights for me was seeing Steve Buscemi as Principal Dort—his quirky, offbeat presence is perfect for this strange little world. Thandiwe Newton as Dr. Fairburn also adds some serious intrigue. And of course, Morticia and Gomez Addams showing up to remind us why this family is the ultimate dark dynasty is always a treat. Visuals That Slay Every Time If you watch Wednesday  for the style and atmosphere, you are in for a treat. The show’s goth aesthetic is stronger than ever. Moody hallways, eerie rituals, and costumes that scream “I woke up like this, but make it spooky.” Tim Burton’s signature vibe is dripping off every scene, making it one of those shows you want to pause just to admire the set design. The Verdict: Worth Your Time, But Patience Is Required Look, if you want a fast-paced mystery with all questions answered by episode three, this might not be your jam. The pacing drags a bit, and the tangled plot threads can make your brain hurt. But if you’re here for the mood, the witty deadpan humor, and watching Jenna Ortega slay every line, Wednesday  Season 2 Part 1 is still a win. It’s creepy, it’s kooky, and it knows exactly how weird it wants to be. And honestly, that’s why I keep coming back. So, what did you think? The Pickup is one of those rare romantic comedies that starts off in the most unexpected way and keeps surprising you throughout. What begins as a quirky meet-cute quickly spirals into an action-packed buddy comedy, a romantic rollercoaster, and a wild heist movie all rolled into one. This is the kind of film where you laugh, wince, cheer, and honestly sit back wondering, “Wait, what just happened?” in the best possible way. Pete Davidson as Travis Stolly and Keke Palmer as Zoe are unexpectedly perfect together. There’s a sweet awkwardness between them that’s both adorable and hilarious. The moment you see that goofy, genuine grin on Travis’s face when Zoe is around, it’s clear he’s smitten, and so are we as viewers. Their chemistry gives the film an emotional anchor that keeps it from just being a string of comedy stunts. Who knew they’d be this good together? Then you add Eddie Murphy as Russell, and suddenly you’ve got comedy gold. The dynamic between Russell and Travis is chaotic in the best way. Russell is the seasoned, no-nonsense armored truck vet, and Travis is the jittery, overly enthusiastic new guy. They clash instantly, but that’s what makes them fun to watch. They bicker, bond, and eventually become this ridiculous, mismatched duo that you can’t help rooting for. The opening bank scene is pure brilliance. Travis is doing his normal armored car pickup when Zoe shows up and asks to borrow his pen. Zoe stands frozen, confused. Travis keeps yelling at her, waving his weapon around, and demanding she show her hands. And the note? It just says, “Call Me” with a smiley face. This scene is outrageous, absurd, and absolutely hilarious. Later, when Zoe and Travis meet at a club, they laugh about the mess of their first meeting. Travis still can’t believe she actually wanted to see him again. Zoe thought the whole thing was cute, and her playful confidence totally wins you over. Zoe isn’t just the romantic lead, she’s the mastermind behind an armored truck heist. This reveal caught me completely off guard, and I loved it. She’s not just the girl Travis is crushing on; she’s the one orchestrating the chaos. Her power, confidence, and strategy flip the entire plot on its head. The abandoned warehouse meeting scene with her crew, Miguel and Banner, has real tension. She walks in completely in control and commands respect. It’s not just a love story anymore, this woman has a mission, and she’s not playing around. As if things couldn’t get more chaotic, Travis gets fired mid-route by his supervisor, Clark. Over the radio. While driving. The timing is ridiculous but also hilarious. Travis is spiraling emotionally, and then they’re attacked by Zoe’s crew. Tear gas floods the truck. The armored vehicle goes off-road. The action scenes are intense and funny, with money flying, tires screeching, and our two unlikely heroes barely holding it together. Then Zoe does something insane , she jumps onto the back of the moving truck and climbs inside. The stunt is over-the-top, but it works because by now, we’re totally on board with the madness. Her reappearance raises the emotional stakes and complicates everything. Now she’s face-to-face with Travis again, but this time as his enemy, or is she? The movie also gives us a hilarious and oddly touching scene where Travis and Natalie, while tied up, end up having a deep conversation about their lives. It sounds ridiculous, but it works. It’s one of those moments that reveals just how smart the writing is beneath all the chaos. I also have to give props to Marshawn Lynch, who totally holds his own in the film. He brings unexpected charisma and adds to the ensemble’s quirky energy. His role is surprisingly fun, and I found myself smiling every time he was on screen. As the film races toward its finale, the questions pile up. Will Zoe betray Travis or protect him? Will Russell uncover what’s really going on? Who leaked the truck’s route? What’s the true motive behind the heist? And what is Natalie going to do when she finds herself caught in the middle? The ending manages to tie everything together with humor, heart, and a few twists you won’t see coming. It’s satisfying, a little silly, and completely on-brand for the kind of story this is. The final note, a surprise invite to Bali, might sound random now, but when you get there, it’ll make total sense and leave you grinning. What makes The Pickup stand out is its bold mix of genres. It’s a romantic comedy, a buddy movie, an action heist, and a relationship drama all at once and somehow, it pulls it off. It never takes itself too seriously, but it still gives you characters you care about, moments you remember, and plenty of laughs along the way. It’s full of ridiculous scenarios that somehow feel grounded because of the heart behind the humor. From the chaotic love story between Zoe and Travis, to the sweet, mature connection between Russell and Natalie, to the laugh-out-loud armored truck stunts and unexpected emotional turns, this movie is packed with surprises. Kelley Mack, best known for her role as Addy on AMC’s The Walking Dead , has died at the age of 33 after a battle with diffuse midline glioma, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer. Her family confirmed that she passed away peacefully in Cincinnati, surrounded by loved ones. She initially appeared in commercials and short films before landing more prominent roles on television. She gained recognition for her portrayal of Addy in Season 9 of The Walking Dead , where she played a member of the Hilltop community. Her other television credits include appearances on Chicago Med  and 9-1-1 . In addition to acting, Mack worked behind the scenes as a producer and filmmaker. Her independent projects include the short films The Elephant in the Room  and Unnatural . At the time of her diagnosis, she had recently completed work on an independent feature titled Universal , which she wrote, produced, and starred in. Medical Diagnosis and Illness In late 2024, Mack began experiencing symptoms including persistent lower back pain and neuropathic itching. She underwent medical testing and was diagnosed with diffuse midline glioma, a rare form of astrocytoma typically found in children. The tumor was located near her spine, and a biopsy led to mobility loss in her legs. She used both a walker and wheelchair during the course of her treatment. Despite undergoing radiation and chemotherapy, the disease progressed rapidly. Mack’s health continued to decline throughout the first half of 2025. She documented parts of her experience publicly, raising awareness about her condition. Legacy and Memorial Plans Mack’s career included 35 acting credits and five producer credits. Her performances spanned both screen and stage, and she was active in the independent film community. She was known for her dual work in front of and behind the camera. A memorial service is scheduled for August 16, 2025, in Glendale, Ohio. A separate celebration of life will be held in Los Angeles at a later date.
