Alex's midlife chaos isn't over just yet! HBO has officially renewed Youth for a second season, giving Sharon Horgan's sharp, messy, and painfully relatable comedy another opportunity to explore the complicated business of being an adult when life refuses to cooperate.

The renewal was announced Monday, November 2, following the conclusion of the show's eight-episode first season. For anyone wondering whether Alex's romantic disasters, family responsibilities, and questionable decisions would continue, HBO has delivered some good news.

Sharon Horgan Is Ready for More Chaos

Created by and starring Horgan, Youth follows Alex, a divorced 50-year-old woman attempting to rebuild her dating life while managing aging parents and a son who technically qualifies as an adult but hasn't completely figured out what that means.

It's the kind of premise that could easily become another predictable romantic comedy, but Youth has never been particularly interested in making adulthood look glamorous. Instead, it embraces the awkward, frustrating, and occasionally ridiculous moments that come with trying to start over while everyone around you still needs something.

Horgan celebrated the renewal in a statement, expressing gratitude for the audience's response and the chance to reunite with the cast and creative team. She also joked about getting to continue exploring her emotional and biological crises on HBO, including the very unglamorous health problems that have become part of the show's comedy.

And really, how many television creators can celebrate a renewal by bringing up a urinary tract infection? Sharon Horgan clearly understands her brand.

What's Next for Youth Season 2?

The first season featured Rupert Friend as Patrick, Sharlene Whyte as Sam, Aran Murphy as Ruairí, and Robbie Gee as Frank alongside Horgan. HBO has not yet announced the complete cast for Season 2, but the network has expressed excitement about reuniting the show's ensemble.

Amy Gravitt, HBO's executive vice president of programming and head of HBO and HBO Max comedy series, praised Horgan's ability to balance humor with genuinely emotional storytelling. The renewal also reunites the network with production company Merman, which produces the series.

The first season left plenty of room for Alex's story to continue, particularly when it comes to her complicated romantic life and relationship with her son. And if there's one thing Youth has established, it's that turning 50 doesn't suddenly mean you have all the answers. Sometimes it just means you've had more years to collect problems.

HBO hasn't announced a premiere date or episode count for Season 2, but the renewal means Alex's wonderfully chaotic journey isn't ending after one season.

The complete first season of Youth is available to stream on HBO Max.
