What to Watch Tuesday, September 29: ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ ‘Doc’ & MLB Wild Card

Tuesday has a little bit of everything, but the biggest television event isn't coming from the traditional fall lineup. The 2026 MLB postseason begins today with four Wild Card games, including a primetime Red Sox-Yankees showdown on NBC and Peacock. ABC counters with Dancing with the Stars going full soft rock for “Yacht Rock Night,” while FOX's Tuesday medical block continues with Best Medicine and Doc. NBC Sports confirms all four Wild Card series begin today, September 29, with games running from 2 PM straight through the late-night Cubs-Padres matchup.

Streaming isn't completely sitting this Tuesday out either. Netflix launches LEGO ONE PIECE, a two-part animated special that retells the Straw Hats' adventures from the first two seasons of the live-action series, while Mononoke The Movie: Chapter III — The Curse of the Serpent also arrives on the service. Meanwhile, FX has another episode of The Drop: A Snowfall Saga, and ABC closes the night with R.J. Decker. Basically, the fall schedule is settling in just as baseball has decided nobody gets exclusive custody of the television anymore.

TV Cave Top Pick: Dancing With the Stars — Yacht Rock Night

Dancing With the Stars airs tonight from 8 to 10 PM ET on ABC and Disney+, with the 13 remaining couples taking on “Yacht Rock Night.” ABC confirms the episode will feature routines set to the smooth-rock hits that defined the genre, with the competition continuing after last week's “Viral Hits Night.”

This is also exactly the kind of theme night that can go one of two ways: surprisingly perfect or two hours of everyone aggressively pretending they're on a boat. Either way, there are still enough couples in the competition for the leaderboard to shift quickly, and the season has reached the point where early favorites are starting to separate themselves from the pack. With postseason baseball dominating NBC, DWTS gives Tuesday's entertainment crowd a very different place to spend primetime.

Doc Isn't Giving Amy a Quiet Week

After last week's Season 3 premiere, Doc returns at 9 PM ET on FOX with “Ready or Not.” A devastating accident sends three members of the same family to Westside in critical condition, forcing the hospital staff to work together while Amy deals with another complication of her own: the arrival of Dr. Ben Grant and the memories his presence is stirring up.

That's a pretty quick escalation after the premiere reintroduced us to Amy's changing world at Westside, but Doc has never been especially interested in letting this woman process one emotional crisis before delivering another. Season 3 is already leaning back into the show's central question of what happens when Amy's missing past collides with the life she's trying to build now, and Ben clearly isn't showing up just to make hospital small talk.

Red Sox-Yankees Bring October Baseball Early

The MLB postseason officially begins today, and the marquee game lands in primetime when the Boston Red Sox visit the New York Yankees at 8 PM ET on NBC and Peacock. The division rivals are meeting in the postseason for the second straight year, with New York hosting the entire best-of-three Wild Card series at Yankee Stadium.

And baseball fans can basically clear the entire day. Phillies-Braves starts the postseason at 2 PM, White Sox-Astros follows at 5 PM, Red Sox-Yankees owns primetime and Cubs-Padres doesn't even begin until 10 PM ET. NBC has returned to the MLB postseason for the first time since 2000, and apparently subtlety wasn't part of the comeback plan.

LEGO ONE PIECE Sets Sail

LEGO ONE PIECE premieres today on Netflix as a two-part animated special, with Usopp telling Chopper the story of the Straw Hats' adventures across the East Blue and into the Grand Line. The project reimagines events from the first two seasons of Netflix's live-action ONE PIECE, with the live-action Straw Hat cast — including Iñaki Godoy, Emily Rudd, Mackenyu, Jacob Romero and Taz Skylar — returning to voice their characters.

It's essentially ONE PIECE story time by way of LEGO, which is a combination that makes far more sense once Usopp is chosen as the narrator. Netflix is positioning the special as both an easy entry point for newer viewers and a playful retelling for fans who already know the story, meaning you don't need to memorize the entire Grand Line before pressing play.

Tuesday may not have a giant scripted premiere, but it doesn't need one. Between Dancing With the Stars, Doc, Best Medicine, The Drop, R.J. Decker, a new ONE PIECE special and four MLB postseason games, there is plenty competing for attention. And with Red Sox-Yankees going directly against DWTS in primetime, household television negotiations could get more heated than either competition.
