What to Watch Saturday, October 17: ‘Holiday Touchdown,’ ‘48 Hours’ & WNBA Finals Lead Tonight's Lineup

Woman and two men chat on a city street, one in a deer costume, while they hold pretzels, with a lively fair-like background.

Saturday television is serving up Christmas romance, true crime, college football and a championship showdown. Hallmark's Holiday Touchdown: A Bears Love Story brings the NFL into its annual holiday movie celebration, while CBS launches a new season of 48 Hours with two investigations.

Sports fans have a particularly busy day, with the WNBA Finals beginning on NBC, several major college football matchups and a rescheduled MLB playoff game. Meanwhile, Lifetime has a new thriller, Great American Family continues its Christmas programming, and PBS welcomes Ari Lennox to the Austin City Limits stage.

Between holiday cheer and murder investigations, Saturday's lineup has quite the personality.

TV Cave Top Pick: Holiday Touchdown: A Bears Love Story

Our Top Pick goes to Holiday Touchdown: A Bears Love Story, premiering at 8 PM ET on Hallmark Channel.

Lyndsy Fonseca stars as Avery Clark, a freelance reporter who returns to Chicago for Christmas and unexpectedly finds herself covering a devoted Bears fan preparing to attend her 500th game.

There's just one problem: Avery knows practically nothing about football. Fortunately, the fan's grandson, Matt, happens to be a handsome firefighter who knows his way around both Chicago and the Bears.

Robert Buckley plays Matt, while Marsha Mason, Barbara Alyn Woods and Khary Payton round out the cast.

Between football traditions, Christmas festivities and a potential romance, Avery's assignment quickly becomes more personal than expected. And considering this is Hallmark, we suspect learning the difference between a touchdown and a field goal won't be the only thing on her agenda.

The film arrives on Hallmark+ Sunday, October 18.

‘48 Hours’ Returns With Two New Investigations

CBS brings 48 Hours back tonight with two new episodes beginning at 9 PM ET.

The season opens with “The Corn Rake Witness,” revisiting the murder conviction of Iowa farmer Todd Mullis. His son speaks publicly about the case as questions surrounding his father's conviction continue to generate controversy.

At 10 PM, “The Detective and the Chewing Gum Sting” follows an investigator whose unconventional strategy helped solve a decades-old murder investigation. A piece of chewing gum becomes the unlikely breakthrough in a case that had remained unsolved for more than 40 years. Both investigations promise the kind of unexpected developments that have made 48 Hours a Saturday-night staple. Sometimes the smallest piece of evidence makes the biggest difference.

Lifetime and Great American Family Bring More Movie Premieres

If Christmas romance isn't your thing, Lifetime has something considerably darker.

Sins of an Amish Husband premieres at 8 PM, following Sarah, an Amish woman who begins questioning the circumstances surrounding her sister's death in a barn fire. Her investigation leads her toward her brother-in-law, whose behavior raises increasingly troubling suspicions.

Over on Great American Family, Silver Bells at Christmas stars Laura Osnes as Ginny, a woman determined to save her late mother's Christmas shop. Her plans become complicated when a potential buyer arrives and a former love returns to town. Ryan McPartlin and Chuck Wicks also star.

One woman is investigating a suspicious death, while another is deciding between two men and a Christmas shop. Saturday's movie choices certainly cover different ends of the emotional spectrum.

WNBA Finals Begin as Baseball's Playoffs Continue

The 2026 WNBA Finals begin at 3:30 PM ET on NBC and Peacock, with the Golden State Valkyries hosting the Atlanta Dream.

Golden State is making its first Finals appearance in just its second season, while Atlanta arrives with championship ambitions of its own. With the title on the line, Game 1 should make for an exciting afternoon.

Baseball fans also have an important matchup tonight. Following Friday's rain postponement, the Cleveland Guardians and Tampa Bay Rays will play Game 4 of the American League Championship Series at 8:08 PM ET on TBS. Cleveland leads the series 2-1, making tonight's game especially important for Tampa Bay.

‘Black Clover’ and ‘Austin City Limits’ Offer Something Different

Anime fans can catch another episode of Black Clover Season 2 on Crunchyroll at 11 AM ET.

Asta and the Magic Knights continue their battle against the Dark Triad as the Spade Kingdom storyline unfolds. After the series' lengthy absence, the new season is giving fans plenty of reasons to revisit the Clover Kingdom. Music fans can also catch Ari Lennox on PBS's Austin City Limits. The R&B singer performs selections from Vacancy alongside familiar favorites.

Saturday may be dominated by sports and holiday movies, but there's still room for anime, live music and a good mystery.
