The superhero fatigue is real, but Prime Video refuses to let us rest. Just when you thought the universe of The Boys couldn't possibly squeeze out another drop of blood, the streaming giant dropped the highly anticipated Vought Rising teaser trailer. Originally snuck into theaters ahead of The Boys series finale screenings, the high-definition online release confirms that the prequel series is officially locked for a 2027 release window. If you wanted a clean break from corporate supe sociopaths, you are out of luck and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
A Deranged Noir Murder Mystery in 1950s New York
Forget the modern, slick corporate boardrooms of the Seven. The Vought Rising teaser trailer transports viewers straight into a gritty, smoke-filled 1950s New York City. Franchise creator Eric Kripke and showrunner Paul Grellong are pivoting the
franchise into a stylized, twisted noir murder mystery.
The preview highlights the early, messy days of Vought International. Instead of a polished empire, we are witnessing the
corporate machine in its infancy, attempting to stabilize the highly volatile "V-One" formula. The footage makes it clear that the show will lean heavily into the franchise's signature graphic violence. Early supe experiments go horribly wrong inside the walls of a mid-century Sage Grove Center, proving that Vought’s history of human experimentation has always been entirely rotten.
The Return of Soldier Boy and Clara Vought
The absolute highlight of the teaser is the return of franchise favorites Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash. Ackles steps back into the combat boots of a younger, surprisingly naive Ben before he fully hardened into the Soldier Boy we know. In a moment of tragic irony, he is seen stating, "I want to fight for the flag. I want to be a hero."
Matching his screen presence is Aya Cash, playing the character under her original name, Clara Vought, long before she adopted the Nazi moniker Stormfront. She appears to be the true architect behind the curtain, manipulating events and guiding Soldier Boy into the spotlight. The trailer closes on her chillingly declaring, "There is a bright future. All we need to do is take it."
Meeting the 1950s Superhero Roster
Beyond the central duo, the Vought Rising teaser trailer gives fans a first look at the original mid-century supe lineup. We get glimpses of:
Bombsight (played by Mason Dye)
Torpedo (played by Will Hochman)
Private Angel (played by Elizabeth Posey)
These early heroes look less like modern celebrities and more like government propaganda tools, setting up a fascinating contrast to the contemporary heroes of the main series.
The TV Cave Verdict: Is It Worth the Wait?
While a 2027 arrival date feels agonizingly far away, this first look suggests Vought Rising has the narrative legs to stand on its own. It swaps out the repetitive political satire of the later seasons of the flagship show for a focused, historical thriller perspective. It is brutal, it looks visually distinct with its mid-century aesthetic, and it promises to expose the deepest sins of the Vought empire.
Are you ready to travel back to the fifties with Soldier Boy, or are you completely suped-out?
