The TV Cave’s Daily TV Guide: What to Watch on May 14

A police officer and a woman smile while walking indoors. The officer wears a uniform; the woman, a pink blouse with a patterned vest.

If your watchlist is already gasping for air, May 14 is here to finish the job. Between major season finales, buzzy streaming premieres, reality chaos, and one very sleep-deprived competition series, tonight’s TV lineup is stacked from top to bottom. Whether you’re diving into prestige drama at 3 a.m. or settling in for primetime comfort viewing, there’s plenty worth clearing your schedule for.

The biggest headline of the night? NBC is rolling out both the Law & Order and SVU finales, while FOX launches a new nightmare-fueled competition event that somehow turns “staying awake” into a survival sport. Meanwhile, Welcome to Wrexham returns with more pressure, more expectations, and probably more Ryan Reynolds charm than should legally fit into one hour.

And yes, Eurovision fans — the semifinals are officially here. Prepare accordingly.

Streaming Picks Worth Staying Up For

Netflix drops Nemesis in full overnight, and it already sounds tailor-made for crime thriller fans who like morally gray characters and intense cat-and-mouse storytelling. Y’lan Noel and Matthew Law lead the series as two men locked on opposite sides of the law, which means viewers should probably prepare for betrayals, twists, and at least one scene where someone dramatically stares out a rainy window.

Over on Prime Video, The Old Stories expands the world of House of David by diving into ancient biblical narratives before David’s rise. With Ben Kingsley playing Moses, the series clearly isn’t aiming small.

Meanwhile, HBO Max’s On the Roam returns with a music-industry-focused season premiere that feels painfully timely. Bands trying to survive in today’s entertainment landscape? Honestly, that might be the scariest thing airing tonight — and that includes Fear Factor.

Primetime Is Absolutely Packed Tonight

NBC is clearly in finale mode with Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU both airing high-stakes season closers. Expect emotional speeches, courtroom tension, suspicious judges, procedural disasters, and at least one scene designed to make viewers yell at their televisions.

CBS continues its Thursday comedy lineup with Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage and Ghosts, the latter bringing Hollywood chaos to Woodstone Manor. A film producer scouting the property sounds like exactly the kind of situation that could spiral into supernatural nonsense within minutes.

Then there’s FOX, which decided sleep deprivation should somehow become appointment television. Fear Factor: 48 Hours of Fear traps contestants in nonstop challenges without sleep, which feels less like a game show and more like a social experiment HR departments would strongly advise against.

Eurovision Season Has Officially Begun

The Eurovision Song Contest semifinal kicks off this afternoon with competitors from across Europe — and Australia, because Eurovision makes its own rules — battling for a place in the Final. Expect elaborate staging, dramatic key changes, unforgettable costumes, and at least one performance that instantly dominates social media for the next 48 hours.

This is the point in the competition where fan favorites emerge, surprise eliminations spark outrage, and everyone suddenly becomes an expert in international voting strategy.

The TV Cave’s Top Picks for Tonight

  • Law & Order: SVU — Finale episodes always bring the chaos.

  • Hacks — Still one of TV’s sharpest comedies.

  • Welcome to Wrexham — The pressure has never been higher.

  • Nemesis — Your next binge-watch obsession may have arrived.

  • Eurovision Song Contest — Pure glorious spectacle from start to finish.

No matter your TV taste, Thursday night is serving crime drama, comedy, reality madness, sports-doc heart, prestige streaming, and enough competition stress to raise your blood pressure before bedtime. Basically, your remote is about to work overtime.
