'The Rainmaker' Episode 7 Recap: Murder, Messy Love Triangles and One Wild Side Quest

Two men in a living room, one holding a bat wearing a "RIKER 17" shirt. The other looks alarmed. Cozy decor, warm lighting. Tense mood.

The Rainmaker Episode 7 flips the legal drama on its head with a wild side story that includes a murder, an untraceable gun, and Rudy Baylor once again proving that being a good guy with a law degree does not mean you have good judgment. If you blinked during this episode or just need a recap that calls it like it is, you’re in the right place. Here’s everything that went down in The Rainmaker Episode 7 recap, complete with ethical disasters, romantic tension, and one epic cleanup job by our queen Bruiser.

Rudy Baylor Is Out Here Making Terrible Decisions Again (The Rainmaker Episode 7 recap)

You’ve got to hand it to Rudy. The man’s heart is always in the right place. His brain? Not so much. In Episode 7, Rudy decides to hide Kelly, the abused woman he’s been helping, inside the home of one of his actual clients. Yes, you read that right. What could possibly go wrong? Oh, only everything. Because naturally, Kelly’s violent husband Cliff tracks her down, and the client’s house becomes a murder scene faster than you can say “unethical legal practice.”

To make things worse, earlier in the episode, Rudy is gifted an untraceable revolver by Prince. You know what they say about Chekhov’s gun? If you show it in Act One, someone’s going to use it by Act Three. Spoiler: someone definitely does.

Cliff Ends Up Dead and Rudy Takes the Fall

After Cliff shows up and attacks Kelly (thankfully off-screen because yikes), Rudy ends up arrested for his murder. Heroic? Maybe. Stupid? Absolutely. Because Rudy is clearly covering for Kelly, who killed Cliff in self-defense. Rather than let the woman go to jail for saving her own life, Rudy steps up to be the fall guy. We’d say “chivalry isn’t dead,” but this is more like “chivalry leads to obstruction of justice.”

Bruiser Saves the Day (Because Someone Has To)

Enter Bruiser, who takes one look at this mess and immediately smells something fishy. In about five minutes flat, she pieces together what really happened, visits the crime scene, and realizes that Rudy is trying to take the heat for Kelly. Bruiser doesn’t just stop there though. She uses her past connection with the prosecutor, Quinn (who once put her dad behind bars), to get both Rudy and Kelly off the hook.

That’s right. One episode. One murder. Zero charges. Bruiser is the MVP and deserves a raise, a vacation, and probably a therapist.

The Love Triangle That No One Asked For

Meanwhile, Sarah is over at Tinley Britt being, well, Sarah. We learn that her job was handed to her by her powerful father who happens to be pals with the sleaziest lawyer in town, Leo Drummond. That definitely explains some of her moral flexibility. She’s still sleeping with her coworker but gets weirdly possessive when she finds out Rudy might be catching feelings for Kelly. Girl, pick a lane.

The romantic tension between Rudy and Kelly hits a weird peak when she asks him to spend the night and just hold her. Nothing else. Just vibes and trauma bonding. Honestly, their relationship is all kinds of confusing, and by the end of the episode, Kelly relocates, probably taking the will-they-won’t-they energy with her.

Plot Threads That Actually Matter Are Still Bubbling

Now before you think this episode was all detour and no direction, rest assured the main plot is still simmering under the surface. Prince, who gave Rudy the murder weapon, is now working for Leo Drummond to track down Melvin, Jackie, and a mysterious file that could blow the whole malpractice case wide open. Jane Allen is still gunning for the truth, and Melvin better enjoy his off-the-grid lifestyle while he can because he’s got a target on his back.

Side Quests and Savage Lawyering

The Rainmaker Episode 7 may have stepped away from the main legal case, but it delivered drama, danger, and just the right amount of chaos to keep things interesting. Rudy made a mess, Bruiser cleaned it up like the badass she is, and now the show is set to dive back into the conspiracy that started it all. With only three episodes left, the hunt for Melvin and that mysterious file is about to heat up.

So buckle up. The real storm is coming, and Rudy better start making smarter decisions soon or he’s going to need more than Bruiser to save him next time.
