The Loop is Spinning Back: Why PBS KIDS Renewed Lyla in the Loop for Season 2

Cartoon Black family and kids watch waffles and toppings flying around a smiling blue mascot on a green set.

Parents, prepare your living rooms. Your favorite seven-year-old problem solver is officially coming back to television. PBS KIDS has announced that Lyla in the Loop has been renewed for season 2. The hit animated series has been greenlit for another massive batch of episodes.

For anyone who has been living under a rock or perhaps just enjoying a blissful television-free existence, Lyla in the Loop has become a certified juggernaut for PBS KIDS since it debuted in early 2024. Production partners Mighty Picnic and Pipeline Studios are teaming up once again to deliver 24 brand-new, half-hour episodes.

However, do not expect to see these new adventures on your screens tomorrow. The upcoming season is scheduled to premiere in 2027. Animation takes time, people, so you will just have to keep those current episodes on a continuous, mind-numbing loop for a little while longer.

What is Coming in Season 2?

So, what can we expect when the show finally returns in 2027? The creators are not just repeating the same old tricks. Season 2 is shaking things up by introducing a brand-new focus: AI-literacy skills.

In a world where artificial intelligence is taking over almost every aspect of digital life, PBS KIDS wants to prepare the next generation. The new episodes will help kids think critically about how AI works in the real world. Lyla will explore the internet, learn how computers make decisions, and discover the limits of technology. It is a bold move for a preschool show, but if any character can make algorithmic bias make sense to a five-year-old, it is Lyla Loops.

Aside from the heavy tech lessons, Season 2 will feature plenty of relatable, everyday childhood milestones. Fans can expect stories about the ultimate skating adventures, the drama of losing a baby tooth, and neighborhood trick-or-treating adventures. There will even be a special extended episode featuring a Loops family reunion on their ancestral family farm. The network is also launching a brand-new suite of digital games and interactive content for the PBS KIDS Games App to launch alongside the broadcast.

The Verdict

PBS KIDS knew exactly what they were doing when they signed the paperwork for more episodes. Lyla in the Loop manages to be educational without being preachy, and sweet without being nauseating. It bridges the gap between old-school public television values and modern tech-driven reality. While the 2027 release date feels like a lifetime away, the promise of higher-quality content for kids makes the wait entirely worthwhile.
