‘The Forsytes’ Scores Early Season 3 Renewal From PBS Masterpiece

In the world of prestige television, getting a second season is a victory. Getting a third before your first season has even aired for American audiences? That’s not just a win, that’s a full-blown Victorian power move. PBS Masterpiece and Mammoth Screen have officially doubled down on their newest period obsession, renewing The Forsytes for Season 3 well ahead of its stateside debut.

For those of us who live for the rustle of silk, the clinking of teacups, and the scent of deep-seated familial resentment, this news is the equivalent of finding an extra bottle of sherry in the cellar. Here at The TV Cave, we’ve been keeping a close eye on this reimagining of John Galsworthy’s classic The Forsyte Saga, and the buzz suggests PBS is banking on this being their next Downton-sized juggernaut.

A Gamble Wrapped in Velvet

Period dramas are PBS’s bread and butter, but a three-season commitment before the U.S. premiere on March 22, 2026, shows an almost aggressive level of confidence. Clearly, the higher-ups saw the UK reception and decided that Millie Gibson’s Irene and Stephen Moyer’s Soames are a pairing we won’t be able to quit.

Writer Debbie Horsfield (the mastermind behind the Poldark thirst-trap years) is steering this ship, which means we can expect the 1880s London setting to be as lush as it is toxic. The series follows the wealthy Forsyte family, a group of people who essentially invented the concept of "having it all" while being absolutely miserable about it.

What We Know So Far

While Season 1 introduces us to the core dysfunction, Season 2 has already wrapped filming with new additions like Richard Rankin (Outlander) joining the fray. Season 3 is slated to begin production in April 2026, taking the drama across the UK and Europe.

The strategy here is obvious: avoid those agonizing two-year gaps that make viewers forget who is related to whom. By the time Season 1 ends its run on Masterpiece, Season 2 will be in the can and Season 3 will be halfway through filming. It’s a relentless conveyor belt of corset-ripping drama, and frankly, we’re here for it.

Why You Should Care

If you like your protagonists complicated and your antagonists well-dressed, The Forsytes is aiming for your jugular. With a cast featuring Francesca Annis, Jack Davenport, and Eleanor Tomlinson, the acting pedigree is undisputed. It’s a story about property, passion, and the realization that money can buy a mansion but it can't buy a spouse who actually likes you.

As we gear up for the March premiere, the Season 3 renewal serves as a massive "vibe check" Masterpiece is telling us this is the long-haul drama of the decade. Get your fainting couches ready; the Forsytes are moving in, and they aren't leaving anytime soon.
