Two men sit against a gym wall, talking quietly; one holds a tablet, with a serious, reflective mood.

Episode 9 of The Chi,titled “Cold Feet” or as I like to call it, "The Flashback Episode," does alot in one singular episode. While the flashbacks help remind us how far these characters have come, this episode is really about the choices they're making now. With only one episode left, everyone is carrying some kind of weight, and the walls are finally closing in on Tiff.

The episode opens with Emmett and Darnell trying on tuxedos for the wedding. Darnell believes he's tracked down the woman who stole Emmett's watch, while Emmett struggles with a secret he knows he has to tell Keisha. I liked Darnell's response here. He basically tells Emmett that if it isn't his business, he doesn't need to know, but he also points out how much Emmett has changed over the years. It's another reminder of how much both of these characters have grown.

Meanwhile, Keisha is dress shopping with Tiff, and the conversation quickly turns back to grieving Nuck. I'll be honest, I'm starting to get a little tired of this storyline. I understand Keisha is grieving, but with the wedding right around the corner, I wish the show would let her focus on that for a little while.

Detective Toussaint isn't letting Nuck's murder go. She is determined to make Tiff pay, and after getting approval to search her house, the police completely tear the place apart. They find money, paperwork, and anything else that might help build their case. Tiff and Victor can do nothing but stand there and watch as everything starts falling apart.

Over at Bakari's apartment, Shaad talks to him about his decision to move to Atlanta. Shaad reminds him that changing locations doesn't automatically change your life, and I thought that was solid advice. Around the same time, Riley and Darnell continue looking at houses, planting the seeds for another hopeful storyline.

One of the better moments comes when Devonte's mom returns, asking if he's ready to come home. Even though we'd already seen part of this scene in an earlier preview, it still landed emotionally. It shows how much Devonte has matured. His mom clearly isn't happy that he wants to stay with Emmett and Keisha, but honestly, I think he's old enough to decide where he feels most at home.

The Taylor brothers also spend time looking through old family photos after losing their mother. These scenes were simple but effective. Instead of arguing, they're finally bonding, sharing memories, and hoping she's finally at peace. It was nice seeing them together for a change.

Darnell eventually tracks down the magician who stole Emmett's watch. Turns out, all she wanted in exchange for returning it was a five-star review. It was a funny little payoff, and she even reveals how she pulled off the trick in the first place.

Back on the mob side of things, Smitty and Big Mike start talking about finding a new plug. I still can't get invested in Smitty's storyline. Every week it feels like he's trying way too hard to be intimidating, and it just isn't working for me.

Jake continues struggling with his grief. His girlfriend suggests he cancel his party plans and focus on mourning, but he immediately snaps at her. Everyone deals with loss differently, and it's obvious Jake hasn't figured out how to process everything yet.

Bakari and Lanae also have an important conversation after Tiff's house gets raided. Bakari finally tells her the truth about

Nuck, Tiff, and how he was almost blamed for everything. Lanae feels guilty because of the voice memo, but Bakari tells her the truth was always going to come out eventually.

Things really heat up when Tiff and Victor meet with Bakari. They want him to take the fall, but Bakari refuses. Neither side is willing to back down, and the meeting quickly reaches a standstill. Then Victor steps in and reminds Tiff that he's the one calling the shots now. Tiff pulling a gun on Bakari just shows how desperate she's becoming. She's making emotional decisions instead of smart ones, and it's catching up to her.

The most emotional moment of the episode belongs to Emmett. He dreams about his mom, Jada, and for anyone who's watched this show for years, it was great seeing Yolonda Ross again. As someone who recently lost my own mom, this scene hit me harder than anything else in the episode. Watching Emmett get one more conversation with his mother, even if it was only in a dream, really got to me. Jada encourages him to tell Keisha the truth because if he's scared to tell her, it means he truly cares.

When Emmett wakes up, he finally tells Keisha everything about Nuck, Rob, Tiff, and the secret he's been carrying. It was the right thing to do, even if it came later than it should have. Detective Toussaint isn't done either. She meets with Bakari again, and after finding nothing during the search, she asks for more. This time, Bakari agrees to hand over the voice memo proving Nuck killed Rob in exchange for protection.

The confrontation between Keisha and Tiff is one of the strongest scenes in the episode. As flashbacks of their friendship play throughout the conversation, Keisha tells Tiff she doesn't want her paying for the wedding, attending the wedding, or even being part of her life anymore. Tiff has no defense. All she can do is stand there and cry.

Papa finally returns this week and has a good conversation with Jake about grief. He tells Jake he's quitting smoking because he doesn't want it to become a crutch, then points out that work can become a crutch too. I really liked that scene. The Chi has dealt with grief a lot this season, and those moments have felt genuine.

Elsewhere, Smitty confronts Keith at Smokey's over his girl and those pills she is stealing , but Keith quickly puts him in his place. Just when it looks like Toussaint is finally about to arrest Tiff, Victor steps in and confesses to killing Nuck instead. He's willing to sacrifice himself, and just like that, he's headed back to jail. Smitty somehow ends up in jail again too, and Angie bails him out despite her sisters warning her not to. I also have to admit... I definitely didn't connect the dots about the third sister until now.

Jake asks Reg to talk Victor out of taking the blame, leading to another flashback montage between the brothers. Those scenes did a nice job reminding us how much history they have together. The first person to visit Victor in jail is Fatima. Even she knows he didn't do it, and she begs him to choose himself for once instead of trying to save everyone else.

Bakari later visits Shaad at Riley's community group, where the kids are reading Bakari's book. Watching those young boys connect with his story was one of the more uplifting moments of the episode.

Devonte also gets a happy ending when his mom agrees to let him stay with Emmett and Keisha instead of returning to Pittsburgh. Darnell and Riley officially tell Shaad about the house, and together they agree to work on it and make the payments together. It feels like Shaad is finally getting the fresh start he's earned.

The episode ends with one last twist. Reg walks into the police station, tells Detective Toussaint that he killed Nuck, and even tells her where to find the body. With only one episode left, the stakes couldn't be any higher. Is Reg really going to end the series in prison for a murder he didn't commit? Is Tiff actually going to get away with it? And what does all of this mean for Bakari?

The finale has a lot to answer, and after this episode, I can't wait to see how The Chi wraps up Season 8.
