Steffy Is Pregnant on ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ — And the Show Isn't Hiding Who the Father Is

Steffy Forrester is pregnant on The Bold and the Beautiful, and if you were expecting the soap to spend weeks asking whether Finn or Carter fathered her baby, the show appears to have something much messier in mind.

After days of feeling sick and trying to convince herself that nothing was wrong, Steffy finally took a pregnancy test and got the result she had been dreading: she's pregnant. Considering her marriage to Finn had only recently gotten back on track after she slept with Carter, the timing couldn't possibly be worse.

But instead of immediately setting up the usual soap-opera “Who's the daddy?” mystery, B&B has essentially pointed directly toward Carter.

Steffy Knows Exactly Why This Pregnancy Is a Problem

Steffy's reaction to the positive test said plenty about what was going through her mind. She and Carter slept together during a drunken night when both believed their respective marriages were over, only for Finn and Daphne to return and attempt to repair those relationships.

Steffy and Carter subsequently agreed to bury what happened between them. Both were overwhelmed with guilt, but telling Finn and Daphne risked destroying marriages they had only just gotten back.

A pregnancy makes keeping that agreement considerably more difficult. On Friday's episode, Steffy went directly to Carter and told him she was pregnant. Their conversation wasn't framed around Steffy wondering whether Finn or Carter could be the father. Instead, the pregnancy immediately became another consequence of the night Steffy and Carter have desperately been trying to hide. That's a notable storytelling choice because B&B could have easily stretched the situation into a months-long paternity mystery.

Carter Becoming a Father Makes This Even Messier

There's another layer to the story that makes Carter potentially fathering Steffy's baby particularly brutal: Carter and Daphne have been talking about having a child.

Daphne has been exploring the possibility of surrogacy, giving Carter reason to believe he could finally become a father with his wife. Now the woman he slept with while their marriage was seemingly over is pregnant.

If B&B follows through with Carter as the father, the writers don't need a paternity mystery to create drama. They already have plenty.

Carter would have the child he wanted, but not with Daphne. Steffy would be carrying the baby of the man she cheated with just as she's trying to rebuild her life with Finn. Meanwhile, Finn and Daphne would both have to learn that their spouses didn't simply spend one night together and move on. That night created something permanent.

What Happens to Steffy and Finn Now?

Finn currently has no idea what Steffy and Carter have been hiding. He believes his marriage survived their problems surrounding Sheila and Monaco, while Steffy has been carrying the guilt of knowing there is another betrayal he hasn't discovered yet.

Until now, Steffy could convince herself that keeping quiet protected everyone involved. She and Carter regretted what happened, their spouses came home, and both couples decided to move forward.

A baby changes that calculation considerably. Steffy and Carter acknowledged during their conversation that they can't continue hiding the truth, which means Finn and Daphne could soon learn exactly what happened while they were apart. How Finn responds may become just as important as the pregnancy itself.

He's forgiven Steffy before, but learning that she slept with Carter is one thing. Learning that she may be carrying Carter's child is something else entirely.

B&B Doesn't Need a “Who's the Daddy?” Mystery

There could always be another twist. This is The Bold and the Beautiful, after all, and soaps have been known to change paternity results, reveal switched tests and pull surprises long after viewers thought they knew the truth.

For now, though, the more interesting part of Steffy's pregnancy is that B&B doesn't appear particularly interested in making her clueless about who fathered her child.

The show spent weeks establishing Steffy and Carter's one-night stand, followed it with their decision to keep the encounter secret, and then gave Steffy a pregnancy scare that immediately sent her back to Carter. That's enough drama without a paternity guessing game.

The bigger question isn't necessarily who Steffy's baby's father is. It's what happens when Finn and Daphne discover that the secret Steffy and Carter thought they could leave behind may now connect them for the rest of their lives.
