The streets of Los Angeles are alive again, and no, it is not Franklin Saint this time running the show. FX has officially ordered a Snowfall spinoff, and the universe that gave us six seasons of drug-dealing brilliance is getting a fresh remix set in the 1990s hip hop boom. Hulu will be the home for the yet-untitled series, which follows familiar faces Gail Bean and Isaiah John reprising their Snowfall roles as Wanda and Leon. That sound you hear is fans exhaling after that brutal Snowfall finale.
The new story picks up in the aftermath of Franklin’s empire crumbling. Wanda, a recovering addict, and her husband Leon find themselves in a different kind of battlefield — one where record labels are the new cartels and the currency is creative control. According to FX’s synopsis, the series dives into how West Coast rap begins to take over the mainstream while gang wars and corporate greed collide behind the scenes. Basically, think Snowfall meets Straight Outta Compton with a side of industry betrayal.
Alongside Bean and John, the cast lineup is stacked with rising talent including Asante Blackk (This Is Us), Peyton Alex Smith (All American Homecoming), and Simmie Sims III (Rap Sh!t). Behind the camera, the creative power remains strong, with Snowfall producers Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Julie DeJoie, Michael London, and Trevor Engelson returning. Adding even more credibility to the mix is Empire’s Malcolm Spellman, who knows a thing or two about dramatizing the music industry’s messy brilliance.
If Snowfall was about the cost of ambition in the drug trade, this spinoff looks ready to expose the same hunger and moral rot in the music business. Expect raw storytelling, cultural commentary, and the kind of tension that made the original series so bingeable.
So get ready, Snowfall fans — the empire may have fallen, but the hustle never stops. Keep your eyes on Hulu because Wanda and Leon’s next chapter is about to turn the West Coast up all over again.
