Shrinking creator Bill Lawrence sat in his office thinking of what’s next for Shrinking and decided the show needed some 90s swag. During the “Bill Lawrence & Friends” panel at the ATX TV Festival, Lawrence officially revealed that 90s heartthrob Christian Slater will be joining the cast for the new season. Who else is ready to see his signature smoldering cynicism on the couch?
Lawerence is really swinging for the fences for season 4. Just last week news broke of Marvel star Karen Gilan appearing in a recurring role. Neither of these casting drops came with character details so we will just have to wait to see what the dynamic will be. However, Lawrence teased that Slater is coming on to specifically “play with the fictional therapists” whatever that means. Is he a villain or a good guy?
If that wasn’t enough, Lawrence also confirmed that Michael J. Fox will be returning to reprise his role as Gerry. Fox and Lawrence go way back to fan favorite series Spin City and the character of Gerry (Shrinking) was a hit. It’s clear Lawrence knows how to write for Fox and bring the best out of him. Seeing Ford as Rhoades bounce off Fox’s Gerry was some of the more interesting moments of the series. Fox’s character brings the emotion into a solid comedy.
Also revealed, season 4 will include a major time jump. Lawrence rightfully admits this is a risky move but keeping the format safe was never his style. The entire main cast, led by Jason Segel and Harrison Ford, is locked in to steer this new timeline.
That was a lot of tea spilled at the festival. What are you most excited about for season 4? Head over to our comment section or visit The TV Cave socials to share your theories on how the time jump will alter the group.
