Firefighters in gear climb a ladder amidst smoke and flames in a cityscape. Text: CHICAGO FIRE, NBC. Intense and urgent mood.

After years of high-octane rescues and unbreakable brotherhood, Chicago Fire continues to be one of NBC’s most-watched dramas. But as Season 13 heats up, fans are being hit with surprising news: some beloved cast members are leaving the show.

Whether you're a die-hard Chi-Hard or a casual viewer, cast departures can feel personal, especially when you've watched characters grow and evolve over multiple seasons.

Deadline reports that Daniel Kyri and Jake Lockett are leaving Chicago Fire and will not return should the series be renewed by NBC. This decision was made to cut costs and not because of storyline developments or actors choosing not to return. Other cast members' contracts are up for renewal however and now that negotiations are underway we may see more cast shakeups across all of the Dick Wolf shows.

No official renewal announcement has been made for the series, but it's a sure bet it will be returning along with the other

Dick Wolf shows set in Chicago and the Law and Order franchise. His shows are very expensive and across the board for the last few seasons, the network has been urging production to cut costs. Fewer episode counts were a part of the measures taken but apparently that was not enough and further changes had to be made.

"Darren" and "Sam" will be missed, that is for sure.Kyri addressed the news via his Instagram stories stating, "I'll miss this character and it's time to move on. Thank you to the cast, crew and the awesome fans."

While saying goodbye to familiar faces on Chicago Fire is never easy, change is part of what keeps the series alive and evolving. With Daniel Kyri’s and  Jake Lockett's departure, the show can offer some new storytelling.

One thing’s for sure, Chicago Fire isn’t cooling off anytime soon.
