Selling Sunset Season 9 Review: Same Drama, Less Shine

three women

Season 9 of Selling Sunset dropped on Netflix on October 29th. This season delivered the usual mix of high fashion, luxury homes, and flawless bodies that fans expect. It brought old drama, new drama, and even a new agent to the Oppenheim Group.

Season 9 opens with Chelsea newly divorced and still at odds with Bre, after Bre’s friend was the one who brought her husband’s alleged affair to camera last season. Chelsea also remains distant from Mary due to Mary’s comments about the short skirt Chelsea wore to a home showing event. Bre, on the other hand, continues to keep her distance from Chrishell and Emma because they felt it was wrong to bring up Chelsea’s husband’s alleged affair on camera. They’re unsure whether Bre did it to be malicious or if it was all her friend’s doing. Amanza seems to be on good terms with everyone and calls out anything she sees as wrong. And the newest agent from last season, Alanna, is….there.

Chrishell has a listing with JoJo Siwa and shows her the staging she’s done for the house. JoJo loves the design and tells Chrishell the price she wants but ultimately says she trusts Chrishell’s pricing strategy. Nicole appears this season with blonde hair and shows no remorse for implying that Emma was having an affair with a married man. When Nicole meets with Emma, she claims her information came from Jason and Brett’s cousin Jenn—who says she felt Emma was inappropriate with her friend’s husband. Meanwhile, Jason installs shrubs outside the office to stop people from peeking in, but Brett hates them.

As the season moves forward, Chrishell and Amanza have a candid conversation where Amanza reveals that Nicole did drugs with her in the past and doesn’t understand why she’s denying it. Chelsea shows a house to Tyrese, while Amanza hosts a “Girlsgiving” dinner at a chic restaurant. Things get heated when Nicole and Chrishell argue, and Nicole crosses a serious line by saying, “You’re confusing me with your parents,” after Chrishell mentions her late parents. Everyone agrees the comment was cruel, and Mary later tells Nicole that certain topics, like family, should be off-limits. Nicole refuses to take accountability, saying Chrishell’s parents battled addiction and that Chrishell is projecting.

Emma later hosts a launch party for her empanada company at Mel’s Diner, where Chelsea snubs Mary due to their ongoing tension. Chrishell tells Jason she’s officially done with Nicole. Bre plays tennis with Mary and Jason’s new girlfriend Jessica, and Mary fills Bre in on what happened at Girlsgiving. Jason and Brett then confront Nicole about her comment regarding Chrishell’s parents and tell her she has to leave the office. Nicole feels betrayed, insisting she’s known Jason and Brett longer than Chrishell, but they still take Chrishell’s side.

Bre shows a home to former NFL player LaVar Arrington, while the office is relieved Nicole has been asked to leave the brokerage. Emma tells Chelsea about her new boyfriend Blake, who’s nervous because Chrishell doesn’t like him. Bre buys a pony for her son, giving viewers a glimpse of her personal life. Bre and Chrishell later meet Emma and Blake for lunch, where Chrishell finds Blake immature and tells Emma she doesn’t think he’s her person. Soon after, devastating LA fires strike, and the Oppenheim Group steps up by offering free rentals to families affected. Emma reveals Blake dislikes her frequent traveling, and the tension in her relationship grows. Around this time, Mary’s house is robbed, leaving her devastated.

Later, Emma and Bre reconnect at the office but barely talk, as Emma took Chelsea’s side over hers. Bre meets with her sister, and the brokerage welcomes new agent Sandra Vergara—Sofía Vergara’s biological cousin who was adopted by Sofía’s mother and raised as her sister. Chrishell, Bre, and Chelsea all meet with Sandra separately to fill her in on the group dynamics. Bre lets her know she and Chelsea don’t get along because Chelsea disapproved of her relationship with Nick Cannon and that she avoids topics like pronouns, religion, or Mariah.

Bre visits Mary’s home to see the damage from the robbery, and emotions run high. Suddenly, flowers arrive—sent by Chelsea—which upsets Mary. Breaking the fourth wall, Mary questions the timing and suspects Chelsea planned it with the producers for drama. They deny it, saying Chelsea sent them on her own, but Mary isn’t convinced and ends filming for the day.

Jason later drives Sandra to her first day at the office and warns her that not everyone gets along. Sandra says she’s an artist who paints nude portraits. Chrishell closes on JoJo Siwa’s house and shows another listing to singer Tinashe—finally giving fans the footage that was cut from Season 8. Meanwhile, Emma and Chelsea visit celebrity jeweler Jacob the Jeweler, and Emma shares that Blake wants to marry her.

Chelsea tells Alanna she sent flowers to Mary simply to show support after the robbery, not for attention. Mary, still upset, views it differently. She’s considering moving because of the robbery and tours homes with Bre, who seems to be the only one she consistently films with—or maybe she’s the only one willing to film with Bre.

Emma later tells Chrishell she broke things off with Blake and she hated hiding her relationship. Chrishell reassures her that she deserves someone she’s proud of, and the two make up, promising to never let a man come between them again. Alanna and Brett work with Sandra on a listing, and Bre meets with three New York agents, teasing the idea of expanding her real estate career to NYC.

Jason hosts a dinner to welcome Sandra to the brokerage. Mary gets emotional about her robbery, and Chelsea offers supportive words, saying she understands how hard it is to have something taken from you. But Mary accuses Chelsea of sending the flowers for screen time, and things quickly escalate and becomes heated. Mary storms off, demanding her mic be removed, while Jason and Brett tell production to stop filming. Chelsea fires back that they can’t decide when filming ends, and the evening falls apart as everyone walks out—Chelsea, Chrishell, and Emma one way, and Mary, her husband, and Bre another.

Mary later tells Jason she doesn’t buy Chelsea’s “single mom” story since she has a wealthy ex-husband and is on a successful global show. She also admits she’s unhappy with all the drama. Jason agrees things were simpler when the team was smaller. Bre hosts a Galentine’s Day party and invites everyone, but Chelsea, Emma, and Chrishell decline.

Chelsea instead meets Sandra at a Hermosa Beach listing. When Sandra asks why she’s not attending Bre’s party, Chelsea says it’s none of her business and relates to things that happened before Sandra joined. Meanwhile, Chrishell shows celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton and his daughter Kitty a home in West Hollywood and shares that she and her partner G have finally found a sperm donor. Nicole meets with Mary and announces she’s moving to Nashville.

Bre, Mary, and Sandra meet for lunch, where Sandra mentions she feels Chrishell doesn’t like her. She also tells Bre that Chrishell said she’s nice - on camera. Bre sees it as a backhanded compliment. Sandra  later confronts Chrishell about the tension she feels with her, leading to a tense exchange. Chrishell accuses Sandra of keying her assistant’s car, which Sandra denies tearfully, saying she doesn’t want bad energy. Chrishell advises her to focus on the work to gain respect at the Oppenheimer Group.

At Bre’s Galentine’s event, Mary becomes emotional seeing a place card for Chelsea, only to learn it was a mistake and Chelsea won’t be attending. Across town, Chelsea, Emma, and Chrishell host their own Galentine’s dinner. Both Chelsea and Bre end up wearing the same latex heart dress—a hilarious coincidence or a wardrobe mix-up.

Chelsea tells the group she has no plans to leave the Oppenheim Group and values the opportunities it provides. Mary tells Bre she loves the brokerage but hates how the drama makes her feel. Bre says she is going to do her work and keep clear boundaries with the people she doesn’t get along with. She asks Mary to stay and not leave her alone.

Overall, Season 9 underwhelmed. The recycled drama dragged on, and Mary’s robbery gave the season a heavy tone. The friendship divides felt deeper than ever, and the cliquish energy made the season feel disjointed. While the show touched on meaningful moments—especially the segment on the LA fires, which showed real compassion—the spark and fun energy that made Selling Sunset addictive were missing this time around.

At the end of the final episode, Netflix teases what looks like an explosive reunion. Who will reconcile—and who’s officially done for good? We’ll find out when the Selling Sunset Season 9 Reunion airs on November 5th.
