Rivals Season 2 Trailer Unleashes Bigger Feuds, New Faces, and David Tennant at Full Throttle

Man in a green coat and hat holds a shotgun over his shoulder. He wears sunglasses and a bandolier. Background is a green field and trees.

Dust off your finest polyester suits and pour a glass of something expensive and probably stolen; the Rivals Season 2 trailer has finally made its grand, sweat-drenched entrance. After months of waiting to see who survived the fallout of the Central South West franchise wars, the first look at the return of television’s most deliciously toxic power players is officially here.

The trailer confirms what we all suspected: the 1980s are still loud, the hair is still structurally unsound, and Rupert Campbell-Black (Alex Hassell) is still the man everyone either wants to be or wants to ruin.

The Battle for the Airwaves Escalates

If Season 1 was a skirmish over a local TV station, the Rivals Season 2 trailer suggests we’re heading into a full-scale scorched-earth campaign. Tony Baddingham, played with a twitchy, high-velocity fury by David Tennant, looks more unhinged than ever. The footage shows Tony doubling down on his vendetta against the Venturer team, reminding us that there is no petty grievance he isn't willing to spend millions of pounds to settle.

Watching Tennant chew the scenery and usually a cigar, remains the show’s greatest pleasure. His chemistry with Aidan Turner’s Declan O’Hara hasn’t lost its edge; their scenes together still feel like watching two hungry wolves trapped in a very expensive elevator.

New Faces and Familiar Feuds

While the core trio of Hassell, Tennant, and Turner are front and center, the trailer offers a quick, tantalizing look at new additions Hayley Atwell and Rupert Everett. Their arrival suggests that the social circle in Rutshire is about to get a lot more crowded and significantly more complicated.

Of course, it wouldn't be Rivals without the "naughtiest" elements that made Jilly Cooper’s world a sleeper hit. The trailer leans heavily into the glamour, teasing high-stakes galas and the kind of romantic entanglements that keep the local lawyers in business. Between the helicopter arrivals and the boardroom shouting matches, it’s clear the production budget has seen a healthy bump.

Release Date and What to Expect

Mark your calendars for May 15, 2026. The season is set to drop in two parts, with a three-episode premiere to kick things off. This staggered release is a bit of a tease, but considering how much plot is packed into these clips, we’ll likely need the break to process the sheer volume of betrayal.

The Rivals Season 2 trailer promises a return to form for a show that understands exactly what it is: a high-octane soap opera with prestige acting and zero shame. It’s loud, it’s expensive, and it looks like a total blast.

How do you think the Baddingham vs. Campbell-Black feud will end this time around? Drop your theories in the comments and stay tuned to The TV Cave for our full episode-by-episode recaps!
