‘Raising Kanan’ Trailer Promises a Brutal Final Season and Raq Is Done Playing Nice

Two men stand in a dimly lit room, both wearing dark clothing. One wears a leather jacket, the other a hoodie. Serious, focused expressions.

The new Raising Kanan trailer has officially arrived, and STARZ clearly woke up and chose violence. The first look at the fifth and final season of Power Book III: Raising Kanan wastes absolutely no time reminding viewers that family therapy was never really an option for the Thomas clan. If anything, the trailer suggests Season 5 is preparing to burn whatever scraps of loyalty are still left standing in Southside Queens.

After the explosive Season 4 finale appeared to leave Raquel Thomas out of the picture, STARZ decided to pull the rug out from under everyone. Patina Miller is back, very much alive, and looking like a woman who has fully run out of patience. Unfortunately for Kanan Stark, that patience now includes her son.

The Raising Kanan trailer leans heavily into the inevitable showdown fans have been waiting years to see. Kanan, played by Mekai Curtis, has finally stepped out of his mother’s shadow and embraced the ruthless instincts that longtime Power viewers already know too well. Watching that transformation unfold has always been the strongest part of the prequel series, and the trailer makes it painfully clear there’s no turning back now.

Adding fuel to the fire is the arrival of Breeze, played by Shameik Moore, whose long-awaited introduction instantly changes the energy of the series. For years, Power fans have treated Breeze like some mythical figure whispered about in dark corners, and now he’s finally here, standing beside Kanan as the pair position themselves to take over the Queens drug game. Naturally, this means everyone else should probably start updating their wills.

The supporting cast also appears ready to make this final season especially messy in the best possible way. Joey Bada$$ returns as Unique after surviving what should have been a fatal beating last season, while London Brown’s Marvin still somehow remains one of the most entertaining and unpredictable characters in the entire Power universe. Add in Wendell Pierce, Erika Woods, Malcolm Mays, and Tony Danza continuing to maneuver through shifting alliances, and Season 5 looks stacked with people making very bad decisions with tremendous confidence.

Split faces of two men, a woman, and other characters. Text: "Killers Aren’t Born, They’re Raised." Title: "Raising Kanan." Premiere: June 12 on Starz.

What makes Power Book III: Raising Kanan stand out from other entries in the franchise is its patience. While the original Power often sprinted from betrayal to betrayal at full speed, Raising Kanan has always preferred a slower burn, allowing characters to unravel piece by piece. That approach has paid off, especially with Kanan and Raq’s increasingly toxic relationship. Their dynamic no longer feels tragic. It feels inevitable.

The final season premieres June 12 on STARZ, and if this trailer is any indication, nobody is walking away clean. The war between Kanan and Raq has finally arrived, Breeze is stepping into the spotlight, and the bodies are almost guaranteed to pile up before the credits roll one last time.

For longtime Power fans, the Raising Kanan trailer delivers exactly what it needed to: tension, betrayal, and just enough menace to remind viewers that the making of Kanan Stark was never going to end peacefully.
