A woman in a white outfit extends her hand to a chimpanzee in a red jacket. They're in a dimly lit, lantern-decorated outdoor setting.

Horror fans who missed the theatrical chaos of Primate won’t have to wait much longer to witness the carnage. Paramount+ has officially revealed the Primate streaming date, confirming that the creature-feature thriller will arrive on the service in the United States and Canada on March 25. For viewers craving something a little more feral than the usual streaming lineup, this one might scratch that itch and possibly leave a few claw marks behind.

Directed by Johannes Roberts, the filmmaker behind shark survival hit 47 Meters Down and the cult-favorite slasher The Strangers: Prey at Night, Primate leans hard into old-school creature horror. The film follows a group of friends whose tropical homecoming takes a vicious turn when their seemingly harmless pet chimpanzee, Ben, snaps and unleashes a violent rampage. What starts as a reunion quickly turns into a desperate fight for survival, proving once again that keeping wild animals as pets rarely ends well in the movies or anywhere else.

Roberts keeps the tension tight and the chaos escalating, delivering a lean horror ride that rarely pauses for breath. The film balances creature-feature thrills with survival horror, pushing its characters into increasingly desperate situations while the threat grows more unpredictable by the minute. It’s messy, loud, and occasionally gleefully unhinged exactly the kind of genre mayhem that works best with the lights off and the volume up.

The cast helps sell the escalating madness. Johnny Sequoyah (Dexter: New Blood) and Jessica Alexander (The Little Mermaid) bring intensity to the chaos, while Academy Award winner Troy Kotsur (CODA) adds emotional weight to a story that could easily have been nothing more than pure creature carnage.

Behind the scenes, the film comes from producer Walter Hamada known for shepherding major horror hits like It and The Conjuring through his deal with Paramount Pictures. That pedigree shows in the film’s polished scares and slick pacing.

Critics have largely embraced the film’s wild energy. The review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes currently lists the film as “Certified Fresh,” with critics praising Roberts’ ability to turn a pulpy concept into something genuinely entertaining. Reviews from outlets like The Guardian and Dread Central highlight the film’s relentless pacing and increasingly outrageous set pieces.

With the Primate streaming date now locked in, Paramount+ subscribers will soon get a chance to see what all the fuss and screaming is about. Whether viewers tune in for the creature horror, the survival chaos, or simply the curiosity of watching a rampaging chimpanzee tear through a tropical reunion, the film promises an entertainingly savage ride.

Mark March 25 on the calendar. When Primate hits Paramount+, things are about to get wild.
