Performer of the Week: The Cast of Ghosts Shines in Season Finale “The Devil Went Down to Woodstone”

Four people stand indoors, one in a suit jacket and shorts. The setting has wooden walls and branches, a warm-lit lamp, a quirky mood.

The ensemble comedy delivers a tour-de-force in its season finale, leaving fans laughing, crying, and applauding the standout performances that make Ghosts a TV treasure.

CBS’s hit comedy Ghosts is known for its humor and its heart but in the Season 4 finale, “The Devil Went Down to Woodstone,” the cast went above and beyond, delivering some of their most memorable performances yet. I love this cast so much, and had the best time chatting with them at this past year’s New York Comic Con. Check out the interview here!

From Revolutionary War captain Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones) to 1920s jazz singer Alberta (Danielle Pinnock) and Viking warrior Thorfinn (Devan Chandler Long), every character has been lovingly developed and hilariously portrayed. But it's not just about the laughs, the show’s secret weapon is its heart, something that was on full display in the finale. The way this show is able to make me chuckle, smile and belly laugh all at the same time should be studied and bottled up. Very clever writing.

We were treated to the return of some of our favorite guest stars, livings and ghosts alike in a hilarious episode about ghost Isaac launch party with the return of Patience the freaking Puritan ghost and Elias who works for the evil guy downstairs. Not to mention the return of the basement ghosts.

It was so fun to watch all the ghosts get their time to make us laugh. Sure a dramatic performance is great but there is something about a show that can make us laugh - especially in trying times and the cast and guest stars do just that.

Brandon Scott Jones as Isaac has always been a fan favorite thanks to Jones’ pitch-perfect delivery of the pompous-yet-lovable patriot. Then there is Rose McIver as Sam, the living bridge between the ghosts and the real world, Sam often plays straight woman to the chaos.

Danielle Pinnock, Alberta and Devan Chandler Long, Thorfinn, this unlikely duo delivered some of the episode’s best comedic timing. Pinnock’s ability to convey emotion through Alberta’s tough exterior, and Long’s ever-evolving portrayal of Thorfinn’s earnestness, chef’s kiss.

As we await news and sneak peeks from Season 5, one thing’s for certain: Ghosts has cemented its status not just as a clever sitcom, but as a show with staying power, thanks in large part to its outstanding ensemble.
