Skye Marshall crushed it this week on Matlock. From finding out that Maddy has lied to her the entire time and then learning that her ex-husband possibly has done something illegal, everything around her is crashing down. Olympia has had her ups and downs this first season of Matlock but this episode finally showed the audience Skye Marshall’s ability.
Marshall was so good in the scenes with Kathy Bates that she was down right scary. From taking her phone, telling her what to say to Alfie and her husband. The look on her face gave scary black mama that is not playing around. I even sat up straight while she was talking. Maddy had no other choice but to comply. Shout out to Kathy Bates who was amazing in this episode but all praise today goes to Skye Marshall.
Olympia was angry of course but also hurt, shocked, troubled and scared. I mean she was calling Maddy out for each lie but I also wanted her to give Maddy the chance to explain. The moment when Edwin gave it away that Maddy really did care for Olympia the look on her (Olympia) face was just so heartbreaking.
Speaking of heartbreaking, how about the anger she felt when she thought Julian was spying on her? In flashbacks we got to see her home life with the twins. Her arguing with Julian and then eventually checking all the pens in her home thinking that they were recording devices. As Olympia collapsed to the floor and later was woken by her kids with ink all over her shit showed the depths of Maddy’s lies and depictions. Was all this worth it for Maddy’s goal?
Olympia was finally (it appears) convinced when she finished Maddy’s letter and confirmed that her daughter did die by reading her obituary. The episode ends with her going to Maddy’s home to meet her family.
Skye Marshall ate this episode up and had viewers going through the emotions with her and that is why she is The TV Cave’s Performer of the Week.
