After years of speculation and fan anticipation, the beloved workplace comedy The Office is officially getting a fresh new spinoff. Peacock has finally revealed the title and release window for the upcoming series. Titled “The Paper,” this new mockumentary-style comedy will premiere in September 2025 exclusively on Peacock. The announcement brings back not only the nostalgic charm of the original but also introduces a timely twist on the modern workplace, this time inside a struggling Midwestern newspaper.

The upcoming spinoff has been officially titled “The Paper,” aligning perfectly with its new setting, a local newspaper fighting to stay relevant in a digital-first world. Slated for a September 2025 release, the series will be available on Peacock, NBCUniversal’s streaming platform that’s also home to the original The Office.

The title was revealed alongside early teaser images and details about the new storyline, promising a return to the mockumentary style that made The Office a cult classic. According to co-creator Greg Daniels, who also served as showrunner for the original series, The Paper aims to explore how traditional workplaces are adapting (or failing to adapt) in the internet age, all through the lens of awkward, hilarious day-to-day office life.

Set in Toledo, Ohio, The Paper follows the same documentary crew from The Office, this time chronicling the inner workings of The Truth Teller, a once-thriving local newspaper. With shrinking circulation numbers and a dwindling staff, the paper is trying to reinvent itself in the fast-paced digital media landscape.

This narrative provides a rich ground for timely humor and sharp commentary on modern media, while staying true to the character-driven comedy that fans of The Office love. Themes like newsroom cutbacks, clickbait culture, and the fading art of investigative journalism promise to add layers of relevance and satire.

While The Paper introduces a new ensemble, it doesn’t forget its roots. Oscar Nunez returns as Oscar Martinez, now relocated to Ohio, a nod to continuity and a treat for longtime fans.

Joining him is a stellar new cast, including:

  • Domhnall Gleeson

  • Sabrina Impacciatore

  • Chelsea Frei

  • Melvin Gregg

  • Gbemisola Ikumelo

  • Alex Edelman

  • Ramona Young

  • Tim Key

Fans can rest easy knowing The Paper is in excellent hands. The spinoff is created and executive produced by Greg Daniels and Michael Koman (Nathan for You), with additional executive producers including Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, co-creators of the original UK version of The Office. This powerhouse creative team ensures the tone, humor, and structure remain consistent with the franchise's high standards.

For many, The Office wasn't just a show, it was a cultural phenomenon. With The Paper, Peacock is reviving that magic for a new generation while reflecting the changing nature of work and media. Expect familiar beats like painfully awkward meetings, quirky co-workers, and hilarious documentary-style interviews, now applied to the chaotic world of journalism.

Whether you're rewatching The Office or discovering the franchise for the first time, The Paper offers the perfect jumping-on point.

With its official title and premiere month now confirmed, The Paper is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated comedy series of 2025. It combines everything fans loved about The Office, awkward humor, relatable characters, and a satirical workplace lens, with a modern, media-savvy twist.

As we count down to its September debut, make sure to keep The Paper on your radar. And if you haven’t already, this is the perfect time to revisit the original series on Peacock and gear up for the next chapter in the Office universe.

Stay tuned for more updates, sneak peeks, and behind-the-scenes coverage and don’t forget to share this with fellow Office fans!
