NYCC First Look at Apocalypse as ‘X-Men ’97’ Season 2 Launches Summer 2026

Animated characters in dynamic poses stand in a desert setting. Bright costumes and action-ready stances create a tense, heroic mood.

Get ready mutant fans, because the wait for X-Men ’97 Season 2 just got a whole lot more exciting. At New York Comic-Con, Marvel Animation dropped a major bombshell by unveiling the first look at the iconic villain Apocalypse and announcing tea for the next season: Summer 2026 be on the lookout for season 2. Yes, you heard that right. The legendary Age of Apocalypse storyline, one of the most beloved and brutal arcs in X-Men history, is coming to your screens soon and it promises to be darker and more intense than ever. Also, the show already has a season 3 renewal.

X-Men ’97 Season 1 was already a nostalgic love letter to the 1990s classic series, mixing familiar faces with fresh storytelling that won over longtime fans and newbies alike. Now, the show is doubling down with Apocalypse front and center. The reveal sent the NYCC crowd into a frenzy, and the buzz around this mutant-packed continuation is only growing.

Expect the usual mutant drama, complex character arcs, and, if the teasers are any indication, plenty of world-ending stakes.

Behind the scenes, things have not been all sunshine and rainbows. Beau DeMayo, the series creator who penned both seasons, was controversially fired by Marvel Studios just before Season 1 even aired. Sources say his original Season 2 scripts included the villain Onslaught and deeper dives into the Age of Apocalypse saga, but Marvel executives pushed for a different direction.

Despite the shake-up, directors Jake Castorena, Chase Conley, and Emi Yonemura are back to maintain the show’s distinctive style and tone. Voice actor Ross Marquand has already teased a “very, very dark” season, hinting at some painful character losses and serious stakes.

With X-Men ’97 Season 2 officially landing in Summer 2026, fans have plenty to anticipate. The new season promises to be a thrilling blend of nostalgia, intense storytelling, and mutant mayhem. So mark your calendars, because Apocalypse is coming and he is not here to play nice.
