Trouble in Paradise: Not Suitable for Work is showing the messiness with living with friends.

Episodes 6 and 7 of Not Suitable for Work are out, and things are starting to fall apart for our Murray Hill crew. With tensions rising between the two apartments and personal issues slowly taking over, it looks like the final two episodes are going to be packed with drama.

Starting with our favorite trio, Kel has finally stood up for himself. As the resident housemaid and the glue holding the apartment together, he’s finally had enough. After feeling underappreciated, he decides to move across the hall, only to discover things might not be as easy as he imagined. Putting Kel in the middle of the girls’ drama was hilarious to watch unfold. Nicholas Duvernay has incredible facial expressions, and he really got to show them off in these episodes. He perfectly captured the experience of being caught in the middle of girl drama for the first time.

Zooming out a bit, it was interesting to see Abby and AJ bicker for the first time. While we know they’re very different people, their argument ultimately came from a place of love. The subtle messaging throughout the episode was also hilarious. Poor Kel truly did not understand girl drama or the hidden meaning behind certain comments and phrases. However, the second Josh and Davis came running back for him, he jumped at the opportunity to return home.

I thought the storyline did a great job portraying the realities of living with roommates after college and the kinds of conflicts that naturally arise. It also made me realize that Kel really is the glue holding the three boys together. Previously, I thought that role belonged to Josh, but it became clear in these episodes that Kel is the one keeping the apartment running smoothly.

As if that drama wasn't enough, tensions are running even higher now that the secret about Bill and AJ is out. Well, at least within the two apartments. I was surprised Davis found out through his friends, as I expected the reveal to be much more dramatic. Instead, it highlighted just how strong the friendship between the three guys really is.

I'll say it again: the dynamic between these three reminds me so much of Nick, Schmidt, and Winston from New Girl. They genuinely care about each other, and it's refreshing to see a male friendship on screen that isn't rooted in toxicity. Instead, they're having monthly "steak and tears" nights to talk through their problems. With so many major changes happening in their lives, it's comforting to see they have people they can lean on.

Speaking of big changes, Abby was officially fired. While I can't say I was surprised, I did think Austin was going to make a move. I'm actually glad Mindy Kaling avoided that route because we already have one character involved with her boss, and repeating the same dynamic would have felt overdone. With Abby now unemployed, Josh struggling to process his parents' divorce, Kel getting his big break, Davis dealing with heartbreak, and AJ's secret out in the open, we're set up for an eventful final two episodes.

What I love most is that even in the midst of all the drama, the show never loses its sense of humor. Kaling excels at finding comedy in moments when it feels like a character's world is falling apart. She reminds us that life can be messy, but if you have the right people by your side, you'll make it through. I can't wait to see what's in store for our favorite neighbors.
