Hailee Steinfeld Leads Disney’s Hexed and the First Teaser Is Pure Magical Mayhem

Animated girl in white shirt and red tie stares in shock at glowing fingertips in a dark, magical room.

Walt Disney Animation Studios has officially unveiled the first teaser trailer for Hexed, its milestone 65th animated feature film. Scheduled to land exclusively in theaters this holiday season, the fantasy-comedy marks a distinct shift for the studio, trading classic fairy tale tropes for a modern, slightly unhinged look at the supernatural.

The initial footage introduces audiences to Billie, an impulsive teenager who has always felt completely out of place in her mundane suburban life. When her dormant magical abilities suddenly trigger, sending her classroom into a state of levitation, she finds herself expelled from school and propelled into Hexe, a hidden, chaotic realm populated entirely by witches.

A Star-Studded Voice Cast

The studio confirmed an impressive lineup of voice talent for the project, led by Hailee Steinfeld as the voice of Billie. Joining her is Rashida Jones, who voices Alice, Billie’s cautious, Type-A mother who gets dragged along for the ride.

In classic Disney fashion, the magical world is filled with enchanted, talking objects, featuring standout performances from industry veterans. Stephen Fry as Elias Quire, a living, magical journal. Tracey Ullman as Ms. Quill, an enchanted, fast-talking feather quill pen.

Hexed is helmed by directors Fawn Veerasunthorn (Head of Story on Raya and the Last Dragon) and Jason Hand (Head of Story on Encanto), with Josie Trinidad serving as co-director. The film is produced by Academy Award winner Roy Conli (Big Hero 6) and Yvett Merino (Encanto).

We have confirmed that Hexed will break away from recent Disney traditions by not being a musical, choosing instead to focus on a comedy-forward, adventure-driven narrative centered around long-held family mysteries and a formidable main villain.

Release Schedule

The film is locked in for a prime holiday release, hitting theaters nationwide on November 25. Following its exclusive theatrical run, the animated feature is expected to stream on Disney+ in early 2027. Fans attending the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 26 will also get an exclusive, extended look at the project during Disney's official studio showcase.
