The 2026 NAACP Image Awards delivered a night of celebration, reflection and cultural pride and one film towered above the rest. Sinners, written and directed by Ryan Coogler, dominated the ceremony with a staggering 13 wins, cementing its place as the year’s defining cinematic achievement.

The Warner Bros. Pictures release, which entered the awards season with a leading 18 nominations and a record-breaking Oscar haul, added three major trophies during Saturday’s live broadcast from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium: Outstanding Motion Picture, Outstanding Actor for Michael B. Jordan, and Outstanding Breakthrough Performance for Miles Caton.

Jordan also took home the night’s highest honor, Entertainer of the Year, further solidifying his status as one of Hollywood’s most influential figures.

A Night of Powerful Speeches

Accepting the award for Outstanding Motion Picture, Ryan Coogler thanked audiences for embracing the film and delivered a moving message about truth, identity, and representation. Michael B. Jordan, reflecting on attending the Image Awards as a teenager, dedicated his Outstanding Actor win to the late Chadwick Boseman and spoke about the significance of being celebrated in spaces that uplift Black artistry.

The evening also included heartfelt tributes to the late Rev. Jesse Jackson, with NAACP leadership and Samuel L. Jackson leading the audience in an affirmation of pride and perseverance.

The night celebrated excellence across television and film, with Quinta Brunson, Angela Bassett, Sterling K. Brown, and Cynthia Erivo among the major winners.

Beyond competitive categories, the ceremony made time to celebrate legends whose impact goes far beyond a single project.

  • Viola Davis received the Chairman’s Award.

  • Colman Domingo received the President’s Award.

  • Salt-N-Pepa and DJ Spinderella were inducted into the NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame.

These honors underscored what the Image Awards do best: balance present excellence with generational legacy.
